Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

hi all. i have a carrera2 3.4 non turbo and i went out last week and noticed the engine temp light came on. i drove to my destination, let it cool then as i was just gettin home i started hearing a "knockin" noise. i pulled over and restarted car and it went but i drove bit further down road and it started again and is very noisey now. would this be the water pump ? any ideas or advice ? the engine runs fine just this noise. any ideas were pump is located etc or a way of testing to find out if it is the problem ? Thanks !! also anyone got a manual they could send me (digital email or something ?) THANKS !! Tom

POST 2Original post

Hi I am a 993 owner so am unfamiliar with the 996's, but what I do know is do not start the engine again until someone has had a good look over the system. You can easily kill these engines if they overheat. Has it lost water? Did the temp light come on again or was everything normal after the first incident? Get professional help with this one. Berni

POST 3Original post

Ditto, don't start it again and get it look at it. Good luck...

POST 4Original post

As above; I certainly wouldn't be starting it again or driving it anywhere, you need to get it looked at asap - overheating will potentially cause a lot of damage and land you with a very large bill. :nooo: Whereabouts in the country are you? Someone on here can probably recommend a good specialist near you...

POST 5Original post

Dont run it till its been looked at. Could be the water pump but could be a lot of other things that might do far more damage. Get it picked up by a local indie or OPC if you have deep pockets and get it checked out.
