Suggestion

I am noticing completely normal clutch/shifting behavior, no slippage when upshifting, can start off in second (to test) without a problem.

Just did it to test for slippage...

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

OK, have been driving a manual for 26 years and never had this happen: Was at a stop and I accidentally left my Cayman in 3rd gear instead of 1st (distracted). Radio on so I didn't hear the revs and started to drive forward, obviously a little slow so I fed her more gas. I then realized we weren't behaving properly (sluggish progress, revving above 4K with little forward progress). came to a quick stop realizing I was in 3rd and could smell that burning smell of a heated-up clutch. The entire episode lasted seconds. The stench is gone. I am noticing completely normal clutch/shifting behavior, no slippage when upshifting, can start off in second (to test) without a problem. Mainly embarrassed, but obviously after driving a manual all my life I guess a brain fart can happen. BTW, my Miata clutch lasted over 70K mi, never had to replace a clutch in any vehicle. Do you think there is much possibility that I damaged anything, or did I just reduce some miles off of my clutch? Thanks for your input. Experienced with treating manuals well but not experienced in this occurrence.

POST 2Original post

i think ya burned off some miles...thats all. i would stop "testing in 2nd gear"

POST 5Original post

Given your track record of making clutches last, I would not worry about it. Like extanker said, you just burned off some extra cycles with that move.
