There is no sign of smoke once the car is running/warm, or if it is started again after a short period..

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I know these can give a little puff of smoke lasting a few seconds when they start.... But mine is bellowing out oily smoke for a good 10 seconds after it has been stood for 24hr + Once the initial 10-15 secs have past the smoke clears and everything is ok..... Just done an oil change, replaced oil with fully synthetic 5w 40 along with new filter. (8.3L of oil) The smoke was occuring before the oil change, I thought maybe the old oil had broken down and was passing the piston rings? There is no sign of smoke once the car is running/warm, or if it is started again after a short period.. say 6-8 hrs Any advice? I intend doing whatever is needed myself as i have a garage with ramps..

POST 2Original post

oil from breather tends to build up in the corrugated inlet pipe just after the MAF, once the gulleys are full, maybe a tea spoon's worth the engine then gulps it in hence smoke. To check if this is happening after a spirited drive when all's cooled down, take off the air filter and look into the pipe see if its holding bit of oil.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Is the AOS a service replacement part? or is it an expensive repair?

POST 6Original post

As far as I remember it was not too bad on amanual car but much more difficult on a tip car as other bits have to be removed to get at it

POST 7Original post

About £50 for the part and a couple of hours to fit IIRC.
