Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

They would also use locktite, lock washers, or retention devices on critical components, although I have heard of dealers forgetting to torque down lug nuts on wheels - really bad results sometimes.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

My local Porsche dealership recommends re-torquing the entire suspension on all Caymans at the 20,000 mile routine maintenance. I question this. What do you think? Are they being excessive? My suspension seems to be doing just fine.

POST 2Original post

gellerb, Maybe Brad can answer this one but I have not heard of specifically torquing down the suspension bolts before as part of routine maintenance. Generally the factories have a set of items for checking torque. They would also use locktite, lock washers, or retention devices on critical components, although I have heard of dealers forgetting to torque down lug nuts on wheels - really bad results sometimes. Are the asking for additional money to do this - if so I would seek some other opinions. Mike

POST 3Original post

Sounds ridiculous to me and just another way to separate you from your money.

POST 4Original post

If it's not on the maintenance list....don't let them squeeze your wallet. Ask to see it in writing!

POST 5Original post

I had 86k mi on my cayman before I replaced it and this never came up, and I did all my service at the same dealership, and had a good relationship with them, so if something came up I felt they were going to be honest about it. Maybe you need to hear from some of the more track oriented owners as this is the only thing I can think of that would place additional stresses on your suspension. My unsolicited tip: Buy the service department lunch after a big service. I do this whenever I have a major service and they really appreciate it.

POST 6Original post

Unless they have a very specific reason to make this suggestion for your car, in my opinion Porsche engineers know best what maintenance is required as listed in the maintenance booklet.

Thank you fall or the advice. I think old dude hit the nail on the head.
