Suggestion

Yes, I believe it can easily be done at the fuse-box by using an inline fuse with a spade connector (see the one on the right:

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

Like the title states, what can be done so the 12V outlet in the passenger foot well loses power when the ignition shuts off? It's a pain to have to turn the radar detector off every time I exit the car. First world problems, I know...

POST 2Original post

Yes, I believe it can easily be done at the fuse-box by using an inline fuse with a spade connector (see the one on the right: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2104017# ) on each end. Run one end from the hot (line) side of a switched position to the load side of the 12V outlet's fuse position. I've been meaning to try this but never got around to it. Remember that the 12V outlets have separate fused, so one or both could be switched. I've yet to verify if anything else is on either of those fuses - which might affect the decision. BTW, an "add-a-fuse' type connector (available from any auto store - example: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=25058146&utm_source=GooglePLA&utm_medium=pla&utm_term=55064928&cid=iP LA:RSO:Google&gclid=CNmJvvP3rsACFYUL7AodeXUAqg&gclsrc=ds ) might be easier yet. Same principle - you'd just piggy-back off a switched fuse and plug the wire into the 12V socket load side (again with a connector blade crimped on the end). With this type of modification, the only danger I can foresee is if the loose end (with the spade connector) came out, it could short out against something metal. But that risk can be mitigated (use short-as-possible wires) - and it would still be fuse protected. Disclaimers: - I'm not responsible for any damage you incur if you try this. Use caution. - The parts I link-ed to are just for illustration. I am not saying those are the correct sizes for Porsche fuse-boxes. Take a spare fuse to the store and use it to find the correct sizes.
