Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The way needles was throwing yet somehow flowing the car round the circuit was amazing!!! I am suprised he could see where he was going he was grinning so much!
That is what it is all about,,,,spend £XXX on suspension + superchrager++++ etc....That goes on the car..spend the money on yourself for driver education and you take the knowledge & experience with you from car to car....Even if you were driving a 996TT would you have gone any quicker than Tiff?.If so I very much doubt you would have had so much fun!
And of course, Mr Needell, was NOT going quickly he was putting on a show. And very fine it was too.
And the point they were making was the Boxster manages to be a Jack of All Trades as well as Master of *Some*!
You can't beat that as a package. Track Day fun and day to day practicality. Long may it continue!
Despite Domster's infinite knowledge of left hooking ringers from Manheim (
), I share this incredulity re the Q.Wilson guide to cheap as chips motors.
He must have unique access to the most gullible south coast octaganrian widows, whose late spouses possessed a penchant for pampering lovely low mileage exotica, only for the same good lady inheritors to be assailed by the dubious charms of the oily conster himself and part with their motoring legacies at a fraction of their real worth.
This view was bourne out several times over the years, most emphatically when I sought the alleged uber bargain of the day some years ago, the definitive GT itself, Porsche's gutsy 928S2.
Quentin reckoned his pukka mid-80s model was a snip at £6k so obviously, having mugged a few somewhat shaky pensioners, I sought out this veritable automotive Lager of Lamot.
Naturally, everything - and I do mean
everything
- even vaguely near this price point, was akin in condition to a three legged dog which had just lost an argument with an extremely long oil tanker.
In the end, you pretty much get what you pay for.
Having said that, I do love the way Quentin talks; he's a proper artist and the way he sort of sneers with that supercillious semi-smirk - I'd love to lamp the bugger with a tremendous right hook. Excellent!
Great car, right result, now all you lucky owners leave desk, put roof down, quick blast, back to desk....batteries recharged !! With regards to the £18k Boxter, these TV progs. always get carried away, it probably had 110k on the clock, always best to spend a little more & get the best you can afford. Uh Oh it's that slippery Porker owners slope again, start off looking at a 924 end up with a GT2 !!!!
Yes yes yes. Lots of people test drive the Boxster and it does nothing for them - they're looking for something else in the car. Exclusivity maybe - Buy a Marcos. Noise and grunt - buy a TVR. Sublime handling - buy a Lotus.
The reason why it won is because it does ALL these things well. A sublime compromise - where the compromise isn't even noticeable, save perhaps in the power arena.
Perhaps that doesn't make it "interesting" but it does make it pretty wonderful. I guess its the sports car people love to hate, as well, precisely because it IS so good.
Whether or not its the "best" is always going to be down to personal taste. What I thought was good about the show was
there were so many to choose from
. Good news for us sports car aficiandos..
Guys,
I miss that show, shame on me. Is it going to be shown again on TV?
If not, what was it about?
Is there a way of getting a write up or even video clip from the show on the web. Doesn't appear to be possible from channel 5 website.
Thanks,
Fanch.
After this it should mean that the sale of 2nd hand boxster should increase...Am i right in saying this?
I only ask as i have to part with mine (against all my wishes...sob sob)
If I was restricted to just one car, and I wanted a sports car, then a Boxster is probably the one I'd go for. Expecially if I wanted to look like I was driving fast rather than actually doing so.
Fortunately though I don't need to compromise that much on my fun car, so I have, er, a fun one.
Not quite as fun as that cart thingy, but getting 'er indoors in as well is one compromise I can't get away from.
I do admire Quentins attitude to BMW. Man after my own heart.
I agree it's the best all rounder. I had a brand new Elise and whilst it felt a better handler it fell to bits pretty quickly. Loads of hassle with the clutch, starter motor failure, blown cylinder head in the space of 7000 miles.
I've done 10,000 miles in the porker and for me it's the best all rounder. If you service them well and look after them they are great cars.
My requiremnets were:
fast
good handling
reliability
build quality
luggage space
driveable for the wife(not often)
Easy to sell on
not too expensive to service
reasonable depreciation curve
comfy seats for my large arse (rugby player)
For me it scores high on all of these. Only problem is the wife is pupped and may have to change to 996 for extra room.
class! I like that and the alliteration get's that sneaky-snake thing across wonderfully. In fact, I can just picture him as that hypnotic snake from Jungle Book -- "you
will
sell me that car for 3k less than book..."
It's got nothing to do with snobbery! I've driven the S2000 (and the Elise, VX220 and Caterham) on the track and the Boxster S, which is my current daily drive, is by far the most impressive machine IMHO. I used to have a Cerbera (and before that a couple of Chimaeras) and for overall enjoyment I prefer the Boxster - the Cerbera handling on standard suspension was too scary for me and my one and only track day in it led to a knackered clutch, new pads all round and new front disks, cost c. £2K. I also reckon that my Boxster S was faster round Castle Coombe than my 4ltr Chimaera would have been.
As you might have guessed, after over 10 years of TVR ownership I've well and truly converted to Porsche!
