Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Just be carefull with the centre console as you take it out though as it's easy to scrag the hand brake leather as you remove and replace it..

Also comes with a template to set the cables at neutral properly.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

lots of how to's on this if you search for it.. B&M do a PDF to fit there one you should find it somewhere.
Just be carefull with the centre console as you take it out though as it's easy to scrag the hand brake leather as you remove and replace it.. Porsche managedd to mess mine up so it's just as easy to mess up as a DIY.
£40 is cheap, it looks ok in the picture but you can never tell how well the bushes fit onto the pivots of the shifter, (The two blue bits onto the brass bits) if there is lots of play it might wobble around.. saying that mine is a B&M shifter and It has a fair amount of play in it when you wobble the stick from side to side, I took most of the play out by adding some grease to it all as Porsche had not bothered to grease the thing.
anyone got a B&M fitted? does it wobble around when you move the stick from side to side? Ive got a horrible feeling I've been sold one of these cheap Rip off's as it was sold to me as new, unused B&M but it came in a plain box with no markings!!! now you have me worried as I paid way over £40 for it and it looks just the same as your picture!! :?
I can highly recommend the 997 SSK kit. Comes complete with the housing so no need to break anything and gives enough reduction to be short but not too stiff. Also comes with a template to set the cables at neutral properly.
997 424 983 00 is the part number.
I tried the B&M and didn't find it practical, but the iinstructions are good, just ignore all instructions relating to destruction of the bushes...

Hi Atomic
Worry not! I have the b&m short shift and mine had a huge amount of play in it so i downloaded the b&m pdf and took my center console apart and as you mentioned, i did put a tiny scratch on it as it is a bit of a ***** to remove no matter how careful you are! I found that the adjusting screw was at the wrong end and wasnt nearly as tight as it could have been so i followed the instructions and sort of refitted everything and now there is still some play but not nearly as it was before and it is much better. The b&m is much more than £40 but quite a nice thing if fitted well. It is impossible to illiminate all of the play i reckon.

Fitted one identical to the one in your pictuire to my Boxster which is basically the same as the 996. I am not what i would call an accomplished mechanic, but i found it very easy with no real problems. Downloaded the instruction sheet from one of the threads, there will be loads on here or try the Renntech forum
However, it is essential you get the plastic tool that holds and sets the gear lever in the right place (costs about £1.50 from an OPC) otherwise you may find that when you put it back together, the gear throw is not correct, and guess what, you may have to take it apart several times until it sits right... so take heed :? .
I would say have a go, I got a great deal of satisfaction in fitting mine and it made a big difference
those alignment tool are pretty essential, but here's the thing, they don't fit all after market shifters, need's to clamp around the lower shaft and if its slightly different to a Porsche one its not going to fit. I know of at least one lever it wont fit, no idea about the B&M though.
I've the tool somewhere I'm happy to give away, if I can find it.
