Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Only question is when will the OP run off a batch of 10 or so, so we can put our orders in?

You can also tighten the mount to prevent it from spinning.

I too liked the idea of using the hazard button to locate a bolt like I have seen done by another member, I just didn't want to go thru the rewiring hassle.

New cars should come with a 1/4-20 nut located somewhere in the dash, covered with a plug, that can be used for mounting phones.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I didn't want a mount that adhered to the dash but I wanted it up high so I made this bracket. Than I attached an Arkon holder to it. It just slip fits into the groove above the radio. It is not adjustable but it works perfect for me and you can install and remove instantly. Pic 5 shows it the best.
I've played around with a couple of solutions. The ProClip setup down to the lower right of the center stack and currently just a simple Kenu vent mount. I love where yours sits in line of sight terms. (One member sells a similarly positioned solution for the
981
, wish it existed for our 987s.)
Anyway, very tidy mount. Job well done!
Thanks!
I didn't consider the vent mounts because I was afraid of hot air blowing on the phone and causing overheating. Not sure if this would actually happen.
Wish I had 987 to play with, I'd develop solution in no time. Some members buy my mount for 987, it works in side-of-the-
PCM
position. With some little alteration.
Nice job on this mount.
Nice idea! Does it lock-in strong enough so you don't have to worry about losing it during high speed turns?
I've not found anything for my 987 that works like I want it to. Currently I have one that goes in the CD slot but it warps the felt that keeps the dust out of the CD player, so it leaves your car looking bad when you take it out (plus the pressure it puts on the CD player can't be good for it). If you ever want to make a few to sell to the guys on Planet-9 ... I'd buy one
Location wise, I liked the idea of relocating the hazard button and using the remaining hole to mount a phone in the same place as yours... but your bracket accomplishes the same positioning without having to mess with wiring a new location for the hazard button.
Nice work. How did you machine and refinish that? I also played around with different mounts and just ended up buying the leather wrapped Kuda brand. I do wish it sat higher but then it starts to get in the way of the cup holder and condensation dripping onto the phone. You have a great solution.
I punched and formed it in a CNC machine for sheet metal. (An Amada). So far it hasn't come out in any high speed turns I've done. (But I'm no race car driver). There's enough surface area on the metal to lock it in pretty tight. I too liked the idea of using the hazard button to locate a bolt like I have seen done by another member, I just didn't want to go thru the rewiring hassle. New cars should come with a 1/4-20 nut located somewhere in the dash, covered with a plug, that can be used for mounting phones. It would eliminate all the suction cups, double sided tape, cd holder, and vent holder issues.
That was the first one I bought on
Amazon
. I didn't like it. From what I remember it was a little loose and blocked some of the screen. I think I tried about 6 of them before settling on my homemade one.
I tried 3 of them and didn't like any of them. Seemed you had to crank the vice tightly into the CD slot and I always wonderd if that was good for the CD player. Plus the CD player has felt to keep the dust out. Felt always looked deformed when I removed those type of mounts. For that reason alone, the "handmade one" on this thread looks like a much better idea when it comes to re-sale time. Only question is when will the OP run off a batch of 10 or so, so we can put our orders in?
The magnetic mount does not interfere with the data or electronics and is surprisingly strong. I don't have nav so it doesn't block much for me but I can see where it might be an issue for some. Turns out the photo of mine installed is not on my phone; it must be on my tablet, which is at home unfortunately, and I drove the Cayenne today since I need to drive a few clients to dinner tonight. I will try to upload the photo late tonight if I remember; in the meantime, I think you can get the idea from the
Amazon
listing.
I am happy with the Mountek solution but agree the OP's is better. If he wants to maufacture some, I am sure there's a market. Perhaps he can get together with the T-Design!
Ok thanks for the picture. It appears to mount in the cd player as well. I do not use my CD player and I place and remove the phone on an angle, so no need to push the release button. You can also tighten the mount to prevent it from spinning. I like the above Home made design above, but I'm not so sure how it will work on the track and I don't want metal flying around at that point in time. There are more expensive mounts that are secured to the side of the
PCM
, but this one works for me. Your mileage may vary.
