Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

If you have the ECU reprogrammed, won't the dealer be able to tell also when they run their diagnostic tests?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was talking to the Fabspeed guys about getting the piggyback unit to get me some more "umph". Is installing this hard to do or can any semi-coordinated person remove it and add this on...about how long did it take you and did you notice some more power?

POST 2Original post

The UniChip is not a DIY project. It involves cutting into the wiring harness of the DME and splicing in the UniChip. The software of the UniChip then needs to be tweaked on a dyno to get maximum benefit for your car and engine.

POST 3Original post

Somebody on this board emphatically said to avoid "piggyback" chips. Reliability issue and very obvious to any Porsche service dept.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So if the piggyback chip isn't the way to go, what are some other options? If you have the ECU reprogrammed, won't the dealer be able to tell also when they run their diagnostic tests?

POST 5Original post

If you go the reprogramming route, you simply buy a second DME with stock software. Before you take the car into the dealer, you swap out the modified one for the stock one. I am not condoning or recommending this approach but if you are interested contact Steve Weiner at Rennsports. The bottom line is before you do any mod, make sure you have a clear picture of the costs, risks, and likely performance gains. The costs you know. The risk is you get caught and lose your warranty coverage on the driveline and emissions. The performance gains are small. My dyno results were an 18HP gain at max rpm. About half of that came from the chip, the rest from headers and exhaust. It was barely noticeable at the track against stock 996s and not at all noticeable on the street. So that's the equation but only you can figure out what the answer is for you. If I had it to do over again, I'd skip it and save the money for more Hoosiers and Pagid Oranges.
