Just picked up a 2006 Cayman S. I need to change out the head unit as I am lost without my iPhone and an intuitive, current navigation solution. That said, I am looking to see what folks have install in their Cayman's within the last six months or so.
My car includes the BOSE system option therefore I am not sure if I am keeping the current amp or switching it out as well.
Thanks for your guidance.
Scott
This has been brought up a few times and you can find guides either way you go but your two options are:
-Keep current amp and buy a MOST HUR adapter for a new headunit (can get from euromotorsports, guy's name is Loi, very helpful)
I went with this option, very easy.
-Replace amp (Need a 6 channel amp and will probably lose the center channel). Supposedly this makes the sound much better but is a bit more involved for the install. I would have probably done this if i had the time/wasn't a lazy ***. Someone wrote a very good tutorial for this.

Thanks. I understand the options, not sure which way to go. Budget/cost will be one of the deciding factors. Looking to get an idea of the HU installed recently. What did you install?
I did review this thread. Leaning towards a Pioneer or Kenwood HU.
Just installed a Pioneer NEX8000. It's a great unit with all the bells and whistles. I went the new amp route and it's sounds great. Nav is great to have. I thought I didn't need it and would just use my phone but it's nice having the bigger screen. Also, Apples Car Play is coming next month so the iPhone should hook up nicely. I had to purchase two additional cables for the hdmi hook up to the iphone for the existing App Radio Apps. They are ok but carplay should be much better.
This unit replaced a last years, cheaper Pioneer unit without nav. This unit sounds much better, has a very nice screen and virtually every option available. I'm very happy with it.
It's $1400 retail. I paid $900 from a local stereo shop.
Also, if you haven't seem the subwoofer DIY upgrade, it's worth a search as it greatly improved the bass sound.
Hello new to the forum have a 2005 Porsche Boxster with bose system. Just purchased a avic8000nex, how do you like your setup would you have done anything different? did you take it to a shop for install?
