Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

I feel like I'm competing with jetkins for most rookie owner questions... Here's what puzzling me this week: I frequently listen to music via a USB stick. If I turn off my Cayman while listening to music via USB, about 50% of the time when I restart the car, the music selection defaults back to the USB stick (after a slight delay while it downloads the info). About 50% of the time, though, it will drop the USB "connection" and the tuner (radio) will fire up when the car is restarted. I really don't think I'm doing anything differently. Thoughts?

POST 2Original post

This never happened with mine. I have an USB stick with music attached all the time. After I start the car the last song I played continues to play, but no track list etc. available - as you said - as it takes some time to download the info from the USB. After about 10 seconds the track list and all the other info show up on the display. But I never got the radio instead it's always the USB stick that gets played.

POST 4Original post

Gee, thanks. I've not experienced that. You might try a different USB stick - solid state stuff like that should respond instantaneously, but perhaps that one is a little slow and the PCM is not giving it time to respond.

POST 5Original post

That would be my guess as well. I use an old iPod in the glovebox. I've had the PCM forget about the iPod and go to the FM tuner on startup a handful of times. I think every one of those times it was because I was in "jump in and go" mode and the iPod didn't have enough time to wake up before the PCM polled it. There is definitely a range of performance/speeds on USB sticks, though of course the specs are going to be impossible to find. Generally though, the rule "you get what you pay for" holds true with flash drives. The cheap ones in the bargain bin are usually very slow ones.
