If so, it's too bad that there doesn't appear to be a clean iPod solution from the factory without paying the $3,110 for the PCM 3.0 navigation system.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I've been trying to piece together information from this forum thanks and other sources regarding iPod integration options for the '09 Cayman. It would appear that if you don't upgrade from the CDR-30 radio to the PCM 3.0 navigation system, the Universal Audio Interface option includes only an aux input ($95), without the additional dedicated iPod and USB ports (that come with the option when combined with PCM 3.0 ($440)). So with only the aux input, you can connect your iPod, but you can't control it through the head unit. In addition, the Universal Audio Interface connector in the center armrest seems to take the place of the existing 12V power outlet, so if you want to connect an iPod to the aux input, you don't have a way to keep it charged without unsightly wires coming out of the armrest. Kind of a pain if you want to leave the iPod in there all the time. Can anyone confirm if this information is accurate? If so, it's too bad that there doesn't appear to be a clean iPod solution from the factory without paying the $3,110 for the PCM 3.0 navigation system. And that's before shelling out additional cash for the Sound Package Plus or Bose options. If only Porsche would offer the PCM system without nav as an option for the Cayman, as equipped standard on the 911. In some ways, it seems as though going aftermarket might make the most sense (and maybe even save a bit in the process), although then there's concern about a quality install without damage to the interior. Thanks in advance for any advice!

POST 2Original post

I can confirm everything except the loss of the 12v outlet. Never occurred to me that the aux input would take the place of the 12v outlet. I hope that is not the case, but I guess I'll know for sure when my car is delivered in April. Since I have no interest in the navigation system, I couldn't swallow paying $3500 for essentially a spiffy iPod interface. Well, at least with the aux input I won't have to mess around with one of those FM modulators... and having to charge my iPod every couple of days isn't so bad.

POST 3Original post

I just purchased an 09 four days ago and now that you mention it, I don't recall seeing the 12v anywhere near the ipod/aux/USB connection. For what it's worth, the ipod integration is seemless and it works well with my iphone. You can view your entire play lists on the PCM screen and the tracks within the playlists. Selecting a playlist/track can be done by touching the PCM screen (you do get some finger smudges) or using the right hand side control button to scroll down then press in. The sound quality is great and it's about time that Porsche joined the 21st century and added this feature. Is it worth the $$$. That depends. I tend to leave my car audio stock so I try to get the best system that I can. I'm sure the aftermarket can do better but I cringe at the thought of holes being drilled to install new equipment. If you get the PCM 3 you should be satisfied with the features.

POST 4Original post

I had a look at the connection in a Gen 2 Cayman with CDR-30 and there is only an aux - no power whatsoever! What a pain....
