0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.

Suspected cause
The Bose amp is problematical as I suspect the EQ and channels are specific to the car model.
Leading evidence: 'eq and channels are specific' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'eq and channels are specific' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

PCM 3.0 Retrofit on 2007 Cayman?
What are the chances that this could be done? From the pictures the PCM 2.1 and PCM 3.0 looks like they are the same in size, so it should fit. Just wondering on function on the dash gauge, ie. song playing, nav arrow direction, etc...
Damn, I had hoped such retrofit was possible!!

A good car will get you from point A to point B. A great car... will just get you into trouble!
What i was told was that it would not be "impossible" but that it would require not only the new head unit (about $4k) but also at least 3 new CAN BUS modules and possibly a new CAN BUS gateway (another $5k) and some other misc items. So again, I don't think it is technicially impossible but rather very cost prohibitive not only in parts but in the labor it would take to switch out things like the CAN BUS gateway, etc.
Hmmm, so we're talking like ~12k. Guess its cheaper to just trade the car in

Perhaps this would be the way to go. Although I'd preferred to stay OEM!

New Porsche PCM
With the nice little blurb about the next gen PCM from Porsche appearing in the owner's mag, I got to wondering if this was compatible with later model Caymans (like my 08 with Bose). It sounds from previous posts that it might be compatible, but that no kits or implementation support will be provided by the factory.
Looks to be a more effective implementation and, with Bluetooth integrated, a good solution. That said, I wonder if this will cause the older PCM kits to drop in price. Any thoughts?
Re: New Porsche PCM
We've discussed it a couple times on here before, just search PCM 3.0; Ken asked Porsche and they were iffy about it saying that the older cars lacked some can bus modules to work properly; but it's quite possible it would work with some level of functionality if retrofitted. Someone will just have to try it.
Re: New Porsche PCM
I gathered from the previous threads that installation might be a challenge on older MOST buss systems. But, I was also curious to see what would happen to the pricing and availability of the current PCM system.
Re: New Porsche PCM
Just found info on another web site from an owner of an 09 Cayenne with PCM 3. Looks like retrofitting the system will require a new Bose amplifier and a new adapter wiring harness. The Bose amp is problematical as I suspect the EQ and channels are specific to the car model. Hmmm.
Re: New Porsche PCM
That would, I suspect, just need the wiring harness adapter.
The interesting thing for me would be to have a replacement for the CD-24 that contained Bluetooth and iPod integration. No word on that, though, either.
Re: New Porsche PCM
The voice-activated controls, ipod and usb connection, and bluetooth would be nice!
Here's an article on it:

Re: New Porsche PCM
I currently have no PCM, and a standard sound system in my '06 CS. So am I correct when I say that it is possible to retrofit the new PCM 3.0 into my car?
Re: New Porsche PCM
If you read Suneet's post above it sounds iffy at best regardless of the sound system installed. Or at least until someone tries it. I'm curious too but lack the funds and time right now for that level of experiment. Also as suggested there's multiple threads on this already to search. I don't recall any that said it would work.
Of course there's got to be more then a little learning curve getting my old dog mind around the idea of cars with busses. Probably one reason the CS is so light but I miss the straightforward routine of just pull a few wires to where you need the component.
Re: New Porsche PCM
Has anyone heard any possible retrofit for the new CDR-30 that is coming standard? I believe it will also contain a screen and some other functionalities. It seems this might be easier to retrofit? Haven't heard too much about the system itself though.
Re: New Porsche PCM
From what i understand of CAN bus systems they are designed with allocated BUS addresses for each module. Therefore the new PCM which has a raft of add on modules for speech recognition, TV tuner and the like , is probably going to have different bus addresses for the new modules which the older cars will not have allocated. This is likely to be the stumbling block to adding a complete PCM 3 system to an older car. Providing the base address for the PCM has remained unchanged , the basic module with any integral options is still likely to work.
Hi everyone,
I am newbie to all the CS electronics. Any ideas on whether or not the 09 PCM can be easily retrofitted into an 08 CS or is it too soon to tell?
Probably too soon to tell, but even if it will be possible, my gut tells me that'll it'll be serious $$$ to do it.
Is there any specific feature of the new electronics that you need? Maybe there could be a better 3rd party solution.
For me, the only thing I wanted was hands-free Bluetooth. So after a visit to Amazon for a $30 earpiece, I was all set!
I believe it maybe possible however no one is offering the parts at present and even if you can get the parts the PCM and the car will require coding. It is unlikely to be 'plug and play'
