This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

hello everybody,i am looking for some help! I can not get my 1999 C2 in reverse gear, its like it doesn't go far enough left or something. it goes into all the other 6 gears fine, just not reverse. has any body had this problem or has any idea what it could be? thanks peter

POST 2Original post

Basically, it needs fiddling/adjusting. This can either be internally (under centre/rear console), or more likely the guide clips routing the cables under the car have popped off. You will realistically need to put the car on a lift to get decent access. It's better to replace the clips whilst you're there (they are pennies AFAIK) rather than pop the originals back in (as the old ones will almost certainly work themselves free again sooner rather than later).

POST 3Original post

Pull up the gear lever surround (lift the rear up first) and check that the reverse shift linkage, one on the side of the lever, is connected and not sloppy in the linkage and the cable is still clipped onto the rear of the gearshift housing.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

cheers for that ,i will have a look tomorrow and let you know how ive got on. thanks peter

POST 5Original post

I was tempted to suggest that reverse was not available as an option on the C2 until MY00 and only became standard on facelift 996s.

POST 6Original post

Brilliant! Made me laugh after a c*** day - thanks.

POST 7Original post

Hi As said the cables could of moved or the cable could of broken underneath the centre console where it is joined together there is a plastic piece on the cable and over time it breaks and moves when reverse gear is selected. Mike
