Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I'd use independents for one-off maintenance work, but stick with (the good) OPCs for annual/main services
Leading evidence: 'Use independents' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Use independents' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi, my dilemma is do I take my turbo for its 60k service to opc and pay £410 or my local indy which is £190.Is the opc stamp really worth the premium considering the awful stories of bad opc work ,tools left in engine bay,its just another car attitude etc. What do you guys think?
+1
I own a 993. Even a late car is now getting well into its teens. Many of the guys who were originally trained on these cars (more often than not whilst employed within OPCs) have long since left to set up their own specialist garages. This has left many OPCs staffed to an ever increasing extent by mechanics who simply do not have the experience of the more subtle needs of the cars. In opting for an Indy, you will often be gaining in the sense of both the cost and the expertise.
I am sure that the same arguments will be applying ever more to the 996.
Im glad you posted this up as Im in exactly the same dilemma with a 2000 TT 50K miles. Its up for its major service next month...£1027 at OPC, £475 at Indie.
The problem is, whenever you take a car into trade the first question is 'has it got FPSH?'
Yes but they,ll find any excuse to get it cheap.Like Richard H said, those in the know, know. If you know what I mean :?: Thats a lot of knows.I need to lie down now
Like I said, anyone in the know (including specialist Porsche dealers) would be happy with a stamp from a Porsche specialist. An OPC isn't going to be interested if you wanted to trade in your 2000 Turbo.
If anyone came on this forum and said "I'm interested in buying a 60000 mile 996T but only the first 4-5 stamps are with an OPC and the rest are with an independent", I'm sure they would get replies saying it doesn't matter. The first few replies in this thread bear that out.
Bear in mind that you own a 10 year old car of which they made around 20,000. It isn't rare, or precious - only to it's current owner.
Agree with everyone else; indy all the way - anyone seriously interested when you come to sell will be of the same opinion if it's a recognised Porsche specialist.
Might be too far for you to go from Preston but I've just had mine in at Specialist Cars of Malton this week for a minor service - very pleased; not the cheapest but these guys know what they're doing (and there are some ni-i-i-ice cars to ogle in the showroom). :thumb:

Limited margin for error in an oil or brake fluid change, but a service book full of OPC stamps would arguably tell potential buyers of your car that no expense has been spared during ownership. Previous owner of my car spent an astronomical amount on bits of one-off maintenance at OPCs.
If I had a 993 or earlier however, I would probably use independents exclusively, as the OPC probably have new guys who haven't trained up on older Porsches.
