I have an 08 CS with the Bose System, here are the aftermarket parts I had installed.
*AVIC-D3 GPS/DVD system
*IPOD Adaptor cord
*Euro MotorSpeed Cayman Custom Double Din Bezel Kit
*Video bypass connection
Overall i spend around $1000 for parts & labor.. so, not too bad at all.
i think its a lot better then the buying a PCM2.1 head unit. :hilarious:
how did you hook it up with an amp?
Probably meant to ask how it was done without using a separate amp?
I am quite curious as well.
How long has it been since Bose went away from having amps in the speakers?
I didn't want to hook up the extra amp. The lost is my center speaker. but, to me it sounds the same as before without the center speaker..
So there is no need to hook it up to another amp?
Every installer that I've asked had said that these bose speakers requires bypass and must be hooked up to another amplifier.
Since I am not replacing the speakers, they said it won't improve the sound but this is only way to even get sound out of it.
If this works then I can save a lot.
I do believe it should since the actual speakers are not ran through fiber.
Even with another amp, I was told that I would still lose Center.
You do not need another amp if you dont want one, the Pioneer Headunit has a built in amp, but it is not that good. You will also lose your center channel too.
You can search for my AVIC-D3 install to find out, but I first had it installed with no amp, only the headunit, and it sounded horrible since the door woofers were not even connected, only the front tweeters and mid-range along with the rear surround speakers.
Get an amp, it will add around 10-15% to the cost, but it will make a big difference. I used a 5 channel Infinity amp that works great. The fifth channel is split into two and is used to drive the door woofers on each side.
I am very interested in this. Been thinking about getting a nav. headunit.
you really don't need an amp to power the center speaker. why spend the extra 10-15% money. It really doesn't make that huge of the difference in sound quality. when you blast those boses speakers, you won't even know if the center speaker is missing. Unless you're listening to those high quality music. But, i highly doubt most people are. I put my mp3 disk in, and it sounds great with subs in the back.
If you're not using the HU's internal amp for anything, you can use it (with an appropriate filter) to the center speaker.
Off hand do you know what the crossover's you used were, or at least what the specs were for the front speakers?
