Suggestion

As the alarm tends to go off if you just use the key then jump in I tend to unlock, relock with the key then unlock with the fob and avoid setting the alarm off that way.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm off on a two week holiday in a weeks time and recall reading somewhere on here (I think) that the central locking/battery does strange things that prevents you getting in to your car if left for more than 14 days? Is this right are am I imagining reading this somewhere?

POST 2Original post

I think its actually shorter than that - 5 days if I remember correctly. The remote fob will not respond but you can still unlock the car with the actual key and then this will re-activate the fob. As the alarm tends to go off if you just use the key then jump in I tend to unlock, relock with the key then unlock with the fob and avoid setting the alarm off that way.

POST 3Original post

Unlock with the key, and then get the key in the ignition and turn to position 1 within 10 seconds to re-set everything.

POST 4Original post

I follow the process Gizmo uses, works every time and no sudden noises!

POST 5Original post

+1 For waking the car alarm receiver with the key (unlock). Then lock/unlock cycle using fob to disable alarm.

POST 6Original post

+1 Easiest and quietest way!......but after 2 weeks you'll still quite likely find the battery will need charging. Porsches and a decent holiday dont really mix! God knows why they cant sort it out like any ordinary car. Probably more flat battery threads on here than anything else.

POST 7Original post

It doesn't help the battery is at the other end from the engine (and ancillaries). To be fair, many cars on here have Tracker etc current drains and many are weekend only toys.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks all - was planning on plugging the CTEK in whilst on jollies so shouldn't have any battery probs upon return

POST 9Original post

Yep, I always put mine on a timed trickle (1 hour per day whilst I'm away for more than a week. Nothing worse than coming back tired with jet lag and having to fiddle about with all that battery nonsense
