Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • 911uk: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi everybody, I'm 6 months into 996 ownership (and many thanks to Maxie and specially to Mark Pearce for taking time to talk to me in January when I was looking); and it's fantastic. Even my wife and kids love it. But it's developed a glitch - when I unlock the car the rear hatch pops open (even with the roof slid back). So what, you may ask - but then when I try to close it the automatic closer doesn't engage unless I hold down the hatch and press the "open" button on the fob! It's a palava and faintly embarrassing, too. I've searched hard, changed the fob batteries, used my second key - symptom won't go away. Before anyone asks, I do not have thumbs like sausages so do not press the hatch open button when I unlock the doors. Help ! (though I suspect I shall be getting acquainted with OPC labour rates)

POST 2Original post

There is an interlock between the roof and tailgate so only one can be open at a time, but this can go out of sequence if the voltage drops. Have you had a dead or new battery recently? If this is the case removing the negative battery lead when the hatch is closed will pop it open. So through a sequence of pushing the hatch release and removing the negative battery lead you can sync it again. Good luck!
