Not sure if it will help but I would start checking the amp wiring first before looking at your head unit wiring.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I seem to be getting a really high pitched sound on acceleration and a bit of static with my setup. It's a Pioneer AVIC-F700BT sent to an Alpine 4.100 then to all Focal Polyglass speakers. Does anyone know if this is a problem with just this model? Is it maybe just my unit? The problem seems to go away with an Alpine unit instead of the Pioneer, but given that many people on this site have the D3, I feel like it might not be a Pioneer problem.

POST 2Original post

You may want to check your wiring. Make sure you got a good grounding spot for your amp and that you have good cables that are shielded. Apart from that, it is recommended that your amp power cables and speaker wires are routed separate from each other. Not sure if it will help but I would start checking the amp wiring first before looking at your head unit wiring.

POST 3Original post

The installer has already checked that, and everything else he could think of and has determined that the only way to make the whining sound go away is to swap out the headunit.

POST 4Original post

A whining sound through the speakers is typically alternator noise. You can try a choke (large inductor) in series with the power lead. Much depends on if the amp or the head unit is the culprit.

POST 5Original post

The installer has tried just a CD changer (not a double-din) and the sound seems to go away. So, I ordered the Kenwood DNX8120 in hopes that this will solve the problem. As an audiophile, the whining sound is way too loud - not to mention I also seem to be getting a ton of static. Turning the gain way down on the amp helps, but the sound is still there. We've also tried relocating the amp from the front storage to the main cabin. The location of the amp and ground seem to be no help. I wish there were a better way rather than buying a $1600 headunit. :wall:

POST 6Original post

Don't know about the pioneer double din but the single DIN units had a notorious problem with this and if I recall it was related to some type of micro fuse that would blow if the headunit was not installed correctly. Have you tried a second 700 head unit? Do a search on caraudio.com to see if there is anything on this head unit.

POST 7Original post

Problems with Pioneer F700BT, so Kenwood DNX8120? So did you ever install the Kenwood? I'm seriously considering this unit, but would like feedback from folks who already have it installed in a Cayman. I'll be upgrading from a base (non-bose, non-CD changer) radio.
