I'm a new
Cayman
(used 2007) owner and I've been researching the a stereo
upgrade. After reading a ton on this site I still have a few questions.
This post was very informative:
My questions are:
Do I really have 7 or 9 functional speakers?
Are there actually crossover electronics somewhere in the circuit that limit the range
of the speakers in various locations?
If so, does anyone know what the frequency range at each location is?
I would like to change out the speakers and some posts indicate that it isn't
even worth doing because the signal has been altered.
There should be enough power in the car with this system I just need to know more
so that I can make a good choice of replacement speakers.
I would really appreciate any additional information. I would like to try to do the best
I can with the head unit that is there and I'm thinking about adding the mobridge
iPod and Aux input system. I may add another amp or two as well once I understand
the system a little better.
edit: After finding more threads on this topic I guess it looks pretty clear that the output
from the head unit is simply 4 channels of full range audio. I guess the new questions
are where are the speaker crossover components and is the ASK amp limiting freq.
range for the 6.5" and center dash speakers or are there some filter components
near the speaker drivers?
One more thing. Does anyone know the speaker depth available in each location?
You should have 9 speakers unless you have a
Boxster
, then you have no rears. As far as I know there aren't separate crossovers anywhere. The headunit puts out a full range signal like you found out, but I'm not sure about the ASK amplifier and honestly I doubt it does for the door woofers though it might for the center speaker... though it may also just put out a mid range signal to get the voices centered there.
The speakers, made by CDT honestly are not that bad, similar treated paper cone speakers as the Bose ones... the problem is a lack of proper amplification and the specs given by the company are seemingly given with a very low resistance, not the proper 4ohms you'd expect for car audio.
Hi there
I have an 07 boxter with the sound package plus system. my amp seems to have given up and iv taken it to an electric store to try sort it out.. we replaced the three sound ic's but the low range and center speakers are still not working... iv tried a an amp from another car and it works fine
Do you guys know where i could possibly get a schematics and wiring diagram for the amp from.....
Iv downloaded the wiring diag for the cdr-24....
Thanks
I'm planning to stick with the head unit so I'm looking at something like
the Rockford Fosgate 3sixty.2 and some new amps. Has anyone tried something
like that out?
