I've found a few clean low mile examples with around 50-60k on the clock with FSH but I've found what looks to be a very clean high spec C2 with a factory fitted Aero kit on it with 98k on the clock but still with FSH (not all OPC but all there none the less).

If you have it inspected/speak to the servicing garage to gain an idea of condition then as long as the interior etc does not look like it's had a family of werewolves living in it I'd go for it.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all,
First of all mods feel free to move this if you think there is a better place for it.
I'm just in the process of buying my first 911 and am slightly nervous of some of the higher mile examples due to repair costs.
I'm planning on spending around £16-18k on a pre facelift 996. I've found a few clean low mile examples with around 50-60k on the clock with FSH but I've found what looks to be a very clean high spec C2 with a factory fitted Aero kit on it with 98k on the clock but still with FSH (not all OPC but all there none the less).
I know in the scheme of things 98k on a 12 year old car is still lower than average but....if it all goes horribly wrong it could be a costly ouch
Any thoughts or experiences will be gratefully received
Thanks,
Paddy
I paid a bit extra for a low mileage car recently because I myself do quite a few miles (circa 15k a year)
If I had a 98k car and did 3 years driving then it would be very hard to sell at the other end with 145k on it.
If you dont plan to do to many miles in it then get a good inspection and if it passes OK then go for it.
If You are going to do high miles I would think about the money you will lose at resale time.
FWIW I nearly bought a low mileage 996 and opted for an RAC inspection. It saved me from a broken heart, the car had loads wrong with it and if anybody reads the 911 magazine they might see it has so far fooled them, they have written about the exact car being "a bargain" thy say if you dont mind the colour (its Vesuvius) then its a great price!!!
SO DO AS I DID GET IT INSPECTED.
Definately get an inspection done and make sure it has had the
96K service done properly by an OPC or reputable independant.
This is a major service for that car which will cost a few pounds!
Mileage is not as important as condition. Mine has 98k on it and
I am happily going to be driving it around for the next few years
at approx 15K per year.
996's are not going to hold there value like the 993 that's why you are
looking at fairly cheap cars now.

I bought my C4 with all the trimmings (full GT3 Aero Kit and carbon fibre interior trim...work out the maths of the cost of these extras added) in August last year for £16k with 112k on the clock. It has a FPSH up until the last three when it was done by ProMax. As I work abroad for four months at a time, I only do about 3-4 k a year max which helps with the
insurance
. All I've needed so far is a set of tyres. Apart from the stone chips and a few scrathes everything else is fine. It's garaged whilst I'm away. My previous car was a 1985 944 turbo and I bought that with 160k on the clock...had that for 10 years and only added another 30k to it!
The upshot is...if you're going to be a weekend and fine weather user, clocking up minimal mileage, as long as you have all the bills and PSH,and provided you like the car of course, you shouldn't have a problem. I bought mine privately and fell in love with it the moment I saw it and the test drive didn't disappoint either!!...go with your gut feelings....
Happy hunting! :thumb:

Lots of alleged issues with early 996 engines RMS/IMS etc but at this mileage you can expect them to have been sorted or not a worry.
