Suggestion
Makes the Sport Classic look cheap...think it was £145k list and given there were only 7 cars or so and only built for one dealer nothing more than a limited run of cars that Porsche Mayfair went a bit crazy on the options list with.

At this price point I suspect these no longer get driven which just makes me sad.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have always loved the Sport Classic, its probably one of the best looking cars around. The last time a saw one for sale it was about £130K which I thought was steep at the time. So too see one advertised at £295,000 came as a massive shock, someone please tell me this is a mistake
Guy down the road from me had a brand new one when they came out, kept it for a year, mostly under a cover, in which time I only saw it leave his driveway once. Replaced it with a brand new E92 M3, can't help but wonder if he regretted that decision.
Bonkers money even when new TBH

Yes, but its a bloody nice frock.
Tis indeed a very nice frock. I've seen one and it did look lovely, inside and out. But, it's no better dynamically than a GTS. If we wasn't in this crazy bubble then I would guess it would be 20-30% more £ than a GTS.
To think this is 3x the price of a 997 GT3! A GT3 is a totally different car to a standard 911 so at least they justify their premiums over a standard C2S, but a bit of leather and a unique colour.... Amazing what a numbered plaque can do.
Mad world atm
A car like that was never built to be a drivers car. It was built as a collectors car. Yes, it is only a GTS under the body, but that was never the point. The point of it is that you are more likely to see someone driving down the street in a 918 than a sports classic. It was a car never meant for us mere mortals. It was designed as a mega rare, very special collectors car, to be tucked away under a dust sheet in a garage in Monaco. Having said that if I had one it would be my daily driver.
Didn't it have a different roof or something? At least unlike the 911R it wasn't a parts bin special; there were some genuine unique features like the roof, the wheels and ducktail. It's a shame Porsche then devalued this by bringing out the ducktail option for the 991.

I would be more inclined to buy a used gts and make a few tweaks
As a car to use this would make a lot of sense, you'd lose the double bubble roof, possibly trhe wheels & trim but save a huge amount of money & still have a very special car to you know,
, rather than hide under a dust sheet in your collection.
I think I've said this before on here but was at the Oldtimer GP with Porsche the year these came out, there were 3 pre-production models on display with 0000000 chassis numbers, they were due to be crushed shortly afterwards but they were stunning, stunning things. Couple of the group tried to make the Porsche bloke an offer on them, but he wasn't having any of it!
I've seen one locally but that was shortly after they came out, not see one since, and probably won't.
000/250 is at the Porsche experience in Silverstone, looks fantastic in the flesh. it's never been on the road and probably never will..........shame really
For the money- no justification buying one of these over a GT3 or similar......
what a rip off......reminds me of the special edition 'Mayfair Porsche' they did
last year with nice cloth seats and a plaque.
I think Keith Flint out of The Prodigy used to have a Sport Classic- although I imagine
he is free from the normal financial constraints and good luck to him.
Chris Harris vid here;
http://www.evo.co.uk/porsche/911/7336/porsche-911-...
I saw one in the Edinburgh OPC a wee while back, it was a lovely thing the wheels make it look even more special.
Pity they were grey only I could imagine how stunning one would look in Guards Red.

I got offered one of those by a "specialist dealer" last year who was trying to sell it for a "Porsche VIP" customer without Porsche knowing about it. Makes the Sport Classic look cheap...think it was £145k list and given there were only 7 cars or so and only built for one dealer nothing more than a limited run of cars that Porsche Mayfair went a bit crazy on the options list with.
The Sport Classic colour is one of the few colours that you can't order PTS apparently as is also the case with the cream colour that some 911 50th's come in. This colour
http://locator.porsche.com/ipl-customer/ipl/detail...
Why anyone would want a 911 that colour is beyond me. The grey or black 50th's look much nicer than that.
They came out a bit before my time on here , was there a " letter of intent " issue with this car like there has been with the GT 3 etc ?
Or did they just get sold under the radar so to speak .?
IIRC there wasn't huge demand when they came out, but quite a lot of discussion and scepticism on here about the £130k price. Prices then dropped and I think I can recall one was for sale for £85k.
But, then, like much else, they have been caught up in the whirlwind that has seen the prices of all manner of 911s and lots of other, so-called, classic/collectables escalate.
Nice individual example of a 997, I'm sure, but I do feel some people are trying to stretch this market too far.
I remember looking at one for sale at Romans a couple of years ago, it was parked outside with a couple of thousand miles on the clock and had a sticker price of just over £100k. If I had had the money I would have bought it as I think they look great apart from the stick on stripes. I would have those taken off and new ones painted on but that just me.
At this price point I suspect these no longer get driven which just makes me sad.
Can we expect a 991 version of the Sport Classic at some point, hopefully not a limited addition? Now that would sell like hotcakes
If the car market ever turns these things will take an absolute roasting...all the other modern day Potsche's are desirable because they mechanically special. This is a 997 GTS with a nice interior, a unique colour, a ducktail and the "double bubble" roof.
I am not so sure if Porsche released a similar car now that people would go nuts for it like they did for say the R. I wonder what dealers will actually pay for these?
Just been rinsed for a set of wheel caps that some scrote managed to remove from my car (HOW??) and tripped over a 911 SportClassic in the showroom. It's a thing of beauty (in my eyes at least). "It's one of 250 in the whole world" Number 127, one owner and 6500 miles....
A 911R is positively common, a GT3RS mainstream by comparison. Yes, it's just a 997 in a posh frock, but if I had a collection, I'd be writing a cheque out. "Yes, it's just come in at £276,995..." *cough* Should have bought one two years ago

You're not kidding me. I've spent the last hour analysing the rarity of this thing and the beyond-comprehension figures people pay for rare cars (993 Turbo S/ 993GT2/ 911 '73RS) and need to remortgage the shed to buy one... It doesn't matter that it's a posh 997GTS, a 993 GT2 was a rear wheel drive 993 Turbo... and is now worth £1m+
Its a bonkers price for literally a GTS with a few limited extras, how much would it cost to build one from a standard S?
Even if only 250 were made, people are paying huge prices today for what they believe will be future greatly appreciating classics.
By paying so much now not sure the maths will work out in the future think they maybe already cutting into the profits.
I'm probably completely wrong and these will be a zillion bucks by 2020, so good luck to those that have one

fast forward 6 years and they still command that price
https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/2010-porsche-9...
£310,500. with fees.
Anything in any Porsche model line up in limited numbers will always command a higher price
Collectors or to retain value been the case for a few years now.
Only if I had a Crystal ball I would have made a fortune on some of the models I sold in the past.
But have had the pleasure of owing such cars I could not afford now days.
Now what is the next limited edition that will rocket Lol
