i wont purchase until nyspeed has tested his fittment !.

Suggestion
I think running 235 tires on all four corners on a base Cayman with CS calipers would be nice.

Suggestion
17" wheels WILL fit over S Callipers/Rotors, But you need a spacer shim Min 5mm to clear the calliper (so use a 7mm shim front and rear)

All the seals were rebuilt using OEM parts...practically brand new.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Help putting Cayman S brakes on base Cayman?
What details and differences do I need to consider if I find I must upgrade the brakes on a base Cayman, specifically...
1) Are the front calipers and rotors an easy bolt on swap with no special parts needed (other than pads, rotors and calipers from an S)? Does anyone know an approximate cost from Porsche for these items?
2) Are rear brake calipers identical except for the color? Specifically, do the rear calipers on the CS and C have the same piston displacement allowing for only a front brake swap--so as to not change brake bias or pedal travel? I understand from a prior post by K-Man that the master cylinder is the same.
3) Will CS brakes fit under the Cayman 17" wheels. I have read that some 17" wheels do fit on the CS car (snow wheels, mini-spare, etc). If the stock *front* wheels do not fit over the CS calipers, would a stock *rear* 17" wheel fit? From examining the clearance, I do not think diameter is an issue, possibly the lateral clearance is the only issue. Has anyone tried this?
I think running 235 tires on all four corners on a base Cayman with CS calipers would be nice. Anyone with experience here?
BTW, I generally do no modify my cars unless absolutely necessary. I may find that the brakes on my new Cayman 2.7 are fantastic compared to what I currently drive on the track. However, I do like to plan ahead. I just ordered my base Cayman and I still have time to upgrade to 18" wheels if necessary. This would allow me future brake upgrade options for sure. But I still like the idea of keeping 17" wheels if I can. My street and driveway are gravel and get very rutted, so I like the compliance of taller tires. And Toyo makes nice RA-1's in 235/45 17 which would fit on all four corners of 17" track wheels and allow me to rotate tires on the track. This would have the added benefit of reducing understeer a bit (a common popular fix on the BMW E36 M3).

:cheers:have been trying to do something similar.
i beleive
boxster s
and
cayman s
brakes are the same.
trying to bye some second hand calipers to check that out.
the rear brakes i think are the same apart from colour.
dont know about 17" rims.
cheers
.
I don't think the S stoppers will fit inside 17" rims. The S front rotors are 318mm the same as the 997
carrera
they all have the same size rears at 299 (
cayman
/
boxster
,
carrera
and
cayman
/
boxster s
). I don't know whether the front or rear calipers are the same across the range all you can do is check part numbers
the difference between the C and CS model is paint color.... the upgrade is
PCCB
... other than that it is asthetics...
I specd them for a living for 2 years... save ur money...
If you want to mod...the best one you could do is change it from a c to a cs now.
I'm putting 996 TT Front Rotors/Calipers on my base 987
Boxster
this week and I'll let you guys know how that turns out. I guessing if it'll fit my base 987, it should fit the
Cayman
base, but I'll be running 19s. I'll fit the stock 17s on to see if it fits.
That didn't go as planned. The spindle is different
. Thus I'm going with the 996 C2 Brakes I have in the garage. I just need to powder coat them RED. Correct me if I'm wrong...the 996 C2 Brakes are essentially the same as the CS/BS only the color is different. The 996 C2 are bigger than the Base
Boxster/Cayman
Setup....Correct?
I'll snap some comparison pictures tomorrow of my 996 C2 setup and compare that to my base
Boxster
. This is taking into consideration that the 996 C2 are basically the same as the CS or BS...
Rears are not the same!
2.7
Front 298 x 24
Rear 299 x 20
3.4
F 318 x 28
R 299 x 24
Size-wise, the 2.7 front
rotor
is almost identical to the 3.4 rear
rotor
(only 1mm smaller diameter), but I don't know if they share the same top-hat offset, spindle, and caliper (apart from colour). Let me know.
Cayman
17" wheel will not fit, but
Boxster
17" wheel may fit.
hope the 996 c2 front brakes fit.
most of the searches i have done show that the
cayman s
, and 996 c2 share the same pads.
so i presume that the calipers/discs the same.
lets hope it all bolts up to the front hub !
thanks for being guiney pig.
tin
I have just taken the Calipers to be painted RED and from what I can see, the rotors are indeed larger in the front, but not by much. As the rear, they look the same, but we'll see once I start to take my originals apart.
just a thought !
how about if i get s discs and space the standard caliper out away from the disc with spacers ? would still be restricted to choice of pads i think ,(mind you i think you can now get rs29's for 27 caliper),and should help cooling together with
gt3
brake ducts on the lower wishbones.
also been offered 996 c2 calipers. i wont purchase until nyspeed has tested his fittment !.
good luck
tin:cheers:
The 996 C2 Brake setup are a DIRECT bolt on for the 987. The stock fronts are the same size as the stock rear on the 996. The fronts on the 996 are slightly larger than the stock 987. I'll post pictures later.h
Pictures of my calipers powdercoated...if you guys want to do the same, pm me for his number. Excellent Service came out PERFECT! All the seals were rebuilt using OEM parts...practically brand new.
here's the comparisons...
Left is the stock front 987 rotors and right is the 996 c2 rotors front
Left is the stock front of a 987 and right is the stock rear of a 996... With the 996 you get more meat.
Space ship...
Wheels first
Cayman
17" wheels WILL fit over S Callipers/Rotors, But you need a spacer shim Min 5mm to clear the calliper (so use a 7mm shim front and rear)
or
Boxster
II 17" wheels go straight on with no spacer
Callipers
As has been mentioned they are a straight swap i.e. S will fit non S (same bolt ctrs) and the fronts on the none S are the same as the rears on S, so you could get away with purchasing front callipers and front and rear disc's (rotors) only. Hope that helps
And I know where there is a full set of second had brakes complete from a car for 750.00 GBP !!!
Thanks! That is exactly the information I needed. I imply from your message that the rear calipers are different on the S and non-S cars (due to thicker rotors on the S), but I swap my front calipers to the rear, buy new front calipers and then new discs all around? I'm not ready to do this yet as I still need to track the car first to see if it even needs better brakes. I am optimistic, from reading many of the posts here that, that I will be pleased with the base brakes (especially since I am used to crapy
BMW
brakes on the track).
I just found out I have an 8/29/07 build date, so I am getting more excited now!
