Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Can "997turboknob" and base Cayman shift pattern inserts be easily swapped ??? Does anyone know if the 5-speed shift pattern insert from the standard base Cayman shifter can be easily swapped with the 6-speed shift pattern insert on the 997turboknob, so that i could install the 997turboknob in my Cayman? If so, will the silver 5-spd insert match the silver trim on the 997turboknob? Thanks for your help! ps - VideoDoctor's attached photo shows the shift pattern insert being removed. This is what made me think/hope this swap will be possible.

POST 2Original post

i thought that the shift pattern insert on the 5 speed cars was black , not silver . it should fit regardless .

POST 3Original post

FUN2DRV, Please forgive me, but could you help me understand why anyone would put a 6 speed pattern on a car that has a 5 speed transmission? I guess there's something I must be missing (besides my mind). All the best, - Mark

POST 4Original post

I think the OP is trying to insert his 5-sp plug into the turbo shift knob that he'd lilke to install.

POST 5Original post

Ahh. Got it. FUN2DRV, I apologize -- I misread your intent. Thanks, TurboFlat4, for clearing that up. All the best, - Mark PS: I really must have misplaced what's left of my mind!

POST 6Original post

Guys, thanks for your replies to my first post. Just to confirm, I am hoping to swap my 5-speed shift pattern insert on to the 997turboknob. If this is possible, it would open up a wider market for this very nice shift knob. Note, Ric at Suncoast is going to check cap fitment for me when his next batch of 997turboknobs arrives from Germany. I'll post his findings here. Thanks again. This site is a great help for a first time Porsche owner.

Let us know what you find out. I was thinking the same thing about a carbon fiber knob.
