I'm considering a Farnbacher Loles GTR conversion.
Everything looks great on paper, but I want to do my due diligence to make sure that an expensive project, administratively complicated by the fact I'm on the "left" coast, becomes a fun and rewarding project, not a nightmare money pit.
So, what I'm looking for from GTR owners are first hand accounts of:
a. Your expectations: performance, comfort, etc. Street use, track use, combination? What were you looking for, motivated by?
b. The process: how was FL to deal with? Service, responsiveness, issues, etc.
c. The result: how did your car turn out? Quality of workmanship? How well does it work as a unit -- sorted out? Likes, dislikes? Reliability? Have you tracked it? Did it meet your expectations, would you do it again? Would you do it again, but differently? Etc.
I would also appreciate feedback from those of you who have had FL work done on your car short of the complete GTR, e.g., suspension, LSD, etc. as it relates to my concerns.
If you don't want to respond publicly, please PM or email me. Your assistance/input is greatly appreciated!
Thanks, Andy
PS: If you know a GTR owner who might not see this post, please pass it on.
PPS: By way of background, I own and track a 986 Boxster S (which I have tracked) and a 996 GT3 (which I currently track). I do not own a Cayman (yet).
Welcome Andy I deleted your other post since there is no need to post twice. Since this is your first post I don't know if you have used the search tool or looked at the bottom of this page for similar posts. There are a couple of people here that have done this and if they don't respond here you should send them a pm or e-mail if they have one listed in their profile. And do you know that they are a sponsor here? That means we can always help out with the interface. Interesting question by the way. What's your motivation?
Yes, I searched first. And, yes, I've already sent a couple of PMs. I was hoping to widen my net with a general post, especially since most forum search engines are not very refined.
Why is there no need to post twice? Are you assuming everyone reads all of the forums? -- I don't.
Yes as a general rule once you mark the forums read you only see the new ones so most people do see all the new topics. This topic probably should be in the modification section after a few days anyway. Here is one that you probably did already read but on the off chance you didn't see it:

Mo' G-T-R!
Yo, Andy!
We all want to know more about F-L and the GTR. There are a couple of GTR'r's here but haven't heard much about it from 'em. Well, not enough to satisfy me.
I'm glad Santa Fe provided you that link--because it's misspelled by one letter and won't come up in a search.
I found Roger Gabow helpful but had to withdraw due to personal life factors. Still, I want one. However, I think that even after doing your online homework, it requires, as Roger invited me, a trip to CT.
Good luck and I'll be watching for what you draw with your thread.
BTW, there are one or perhaps two other sourced 3.8l X-51 conversions, but I'd go with the fully integrated package from our sponsor for several reasons.
However, if you want a co-driver on a road trip back to the left coast, we can
accommodate. I've got last half of August and September free for such a ride. 'til then I'm cooling my heels in Alaska.
