Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

If your car has metallic paint, you will not be able to repair the chip to match the surrounding paint.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

First off, Hi everyone. I've been monitoring this group for some time now but this is my first new topic.
I knew this day would come but I had hoped it wouldn't....My baby got her first paint chip. The chip is really very small, but my eyes are drawn to it every time I look at the hood.
I would like to touch it up myself. Can anyone point me to a good "How to" procedure for performing the touch-up? What will I need besides the touch-up paint?
I did a search of the archive and a few people mentioned some stuff called "Langka" to remove the excess paint. Does this stuff work?
Thanks,
AEN

While I feel your pain, my car is driven regularly on the track and the street and I have a few small chips. The price of driving it like I want. If yours is a garage queen, then Larry at www.carcareonline.com is your guy.

I ended up getting the Langka, but haven't had a chance to try it out. It sounds like it is just a very fine abrasive much like the 2000 grit block suggested by CarCareOnline's how-to article. I hope to have time this weekend to try it out.
If your car has metallic paint, you will not be able to repair the chip to match the surrounding paint. You can't control the density of the metallic flake in the touchup paint. Some people are experts at repairing chips with an airbrush. I would recommend that for a metallic finish.
Paint chip? Don't spend your automotive life dragged down looking for defects. Spend your time looking for the positive strengths of your baby and enjoy!
If the finish is not metallic and the paint chip is small, there is a DIY way:
1. Get some touch-up paint from your local dealer,
2. Get a very small amount of touch-up paint and dilute it with thinners (3:1),
3. Use a tooth pick as the "brush" to fill in the chip,
4. Allow paint to dry for at least 24-36 Hours,
5. Then polish.
I heard about this technique from a friend who restores cars and apparently the result can be good with practice. You may want to try it on the wife's car first!!
