Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm currently engaged in negotiations to LEASE a 2002 911 C2 coupe. Sticker is roughly $78,000 (includes PSM, full leather, etc). We're currently at 2K down and $875/month for 48 months (includes all use taxes). Anyone else been able to do better? The dealer would like to unload this car since he has 2003 models coming soon. Any input would be appreciated.

POST 2Original post

I remember when the 2002's first got here, the leases were running $1200 to $1300 per month. To get you to $875, the car is discounted huge! Call them back and leave a deposit before it is gone. Good Luck.

POST 3Original post

FWIW: You are really involved in two transactions when leasing/buying a car. The profit to the dealer through the salesperson (car sales price over invoice) and the profit to the dealer via the finance person (finance charges, like a loan charge). General lease principals: Put NO money down. Worst investment you'll ever make and the fastest profit the dealer will ever see. 1) Negotiate the Price of the car. 2) Negotiate the Lease rate. Drive off's should include First Monthly Payment & DMV fees ONLY. A nice finance trick/misnomer is that they say "they have to charge the Luxury Tax up front". BS. Lux. Tax is already figured out in their computers on a monthly basis. They wouldn't know how to pay if they had too. BTW, why would you pay for this upfront, drive the car off the lot and total the car and have to pay for it again. Tell the finance guy you want him to figure the lease at .25 basis points over his cost of money. He should go for that. Profit to him is an extra $600 roughly on top of the dealer profit. Hope this helps. BTW, 02 C4 Cab Tip, over $100k, $1,300/m, $1,900 drive off, 48m. Tom

POST 4Original post

It sounds like a decent deal. I agree with the last reply. What is the discount off the $78k MSRP, this is the most important factor in determining how good the deal is, what is the residual price, and what is the money factor on the lease. With this information you can quickly determine the overall value. There are a number of lease calculators on the internet, but if you like message me the details and I can run the numbers for you. On my recent lease the terms through Chase were much better than Porsche Financial.

POST 5Original post

Whether you are buy or lease the 'price' of the car is critcial. $875 seems like a really low lease rate ...keep us posted on 'what lies beneath.' i just put a deposit down on a 02 C2 (MSRP 72065) at $2300 over invoice (they through in a car cover and a key chain). I spent alot of time and this was the best deal i could get. Most other dealers i spoke with a)would go no lower that 5,000 over or b) hung up on me.

POST 6Original post

We hate "renting" cars. Would rather buy a 1 or 2 yr old...loan payments abut the same and have some equity in the car at the end of 5-6 years...that is if you can keep one Pcar that long w/o wanting the change.

POST 8Original post

Lease it quickly before someone else gets beats you to it. I leased an '02 C-2 earlier this year and the payment was much more that what you were quoted.
