After doing my first DE at Roebling Road last October the right rear brakes squeal under light braking. Is there any procedure which is recommended to alleviate this? I have read a number of threads on "bedding in" but this doesn't seem appropriate. (07 CS has 24,000 miles on it.) Porsche dealer handed me a pamphlet from Porsche to get rid of me.
stock brake pads?
brake adhesive may not be soft and rubbery anymore. If someone installed after market pads there may not have been any brake pad adhesive added to the pads and the result is that they will squeal. Pretty easy to pull them out and check, 5-10 minute job.
Original equipment pads (red calipers). I took off the calipers, removed the pads, inspected them including the "star" anti-squeal attachment that fits into the pistons. Cleaned everything up and re-installed everything. The squeal stopped for about a week and then returned. I read on one of the threads that the intense heating from a DE event may have "cooked the adhesive" which holds the damper plate to the pad. It wasn't loose. What is the next step. Thanks!
My dealer has halted the usage of tire dressing on all their cars because of this exact complaint (sans the DE). Something about the silicone ingredient. I think their solution was to de-glaze the rotors and pads. Not sure what that means but I think they also mentioned something about Simple Green as well. Anyway, probably not your issue and most likely a bunch of B.S. but I thought I'd pass it along. FWIW
Brake Squeal Again and Again and Again...
I know this has been brought up before but Porsche needs to admit that there is a problem with at least some of the brakes on the 09 CS. My 06 CS never made any noise. The brakes on my 09 are so loud it is embarassing. I have brought the car to the dealership twice and they just tell me that they are fine and that it is the harder compound used. I have called Porsche NA and they recite basically the same mantra. I guess I will have to call them again and try to get a rep to check it out. I have never had any car that had this problem. I can't see this being ok with someone who spent $150,000 for a Panamera or Turbo.
I just can't buy the tire dressing argument. I used it on my 06 CS, my previous 2 Audi S4's and all other vehicles. It has never caused the sound I am getting now.
Note: Threads covering essentially same complaint merged.
I understand squealing not to be from the pad on the rotor but having to do with harmonics that are created when you apply the brakes. Get some brake squeal stuff from Napa, it is a rubber compound you put on the back the pad. Brush it on, let it dry and put the pads back in and you should be good to go. Make sure not to get it on the pad side or on the rotor. And don't use that stuff you spray on your rotors, it just does not work.
