Hi
My 09 2.9
PDK
Cayman has 62k kms on it. Bone stock. Everything was fine until the recent oil change. Started noticing small amounts of engine oil (confirmed by 2 different mechanics) leaking near the left rear wheel- maybe 1-2 drops a day. Hoist the car up and noticed that oil MAY be coming from the air intake (Refer to photos) and dripping down. I have no symptoms of an
AOS
failure so far. Engine is running fine, no white smoke etc. The only thing is that the electronic gauge reads that the oil level is above max. No other codes, CELs etc. I have been to 2 independent workshops and was told it MAY be the
AOS
or it may be an overfill situation and to just watch it first but it doesnt seem to be a major issue so far. I havent had the time to leave the car there for a proper evaluation yet. Attached is the photo of the leak. The photo is taken from under the vehicle jus adjacent to the left rear wheel looking up toward the engine oil filter and air filter.
Any ideas guys?
Thanks and appreciate it much!

SG cayman owner too. Exact same thing happened to me a couple of weeks. It was because the previous workshop overfilled with oil(never going back obviously). I brought it to a porsche specialist who diagnosed it as an overfill. They opened the engine up and removed the excess oil. Nothing major
Good info Enriec and here's hoping this is the OP's problem.

Thanks guys. I hope thats the issue as well. Will continue monitoring it over the weekend. BTW Erniec do you mind PM me the place where you had your oil change done? So that i wont make the same mistake? Thanks!
FYI best/cleanest way to remove excess oil is to unscrew the plastic oil filter housing and dump what's in there. Might take 2-3 times if it was really overfilled.
Thanks racergreg, yup will do that!
I would
not
drive it until the oil level is correct.
greetings from across the causeway....
its actually quite easy for the car to be overfilled, even by specialists (and if you read P9 a lot, sometimes by Porsche workshops too).
during my last service, the reading was fine when the tech checked it.
I too ran the level check before leaving the premises and when I reached home. Next day it was above the max. checked after reaching the office - still over.
slow, patient draining. slow patient filling are both key.
just pop by and tell them about it.
If I would change oil myself, I will not assume that all old oil has been drained 99% and would not attempt to put 8 qts of fresh oil right away. Maybe start with 7.5 qts and monitor for couple days. Slightly less oil is better than overfilling as this engine seems to puke excess oil (read it many times in this forum).
I carefully measure what I drain out (usually pour my drain pan into old jugs) so I can ensure I don't overfill it. I really hate that the only way to tell if we've dangerous over-filled or under-filled these cars is to let it idle for 15 minutes.
Happy to report that the oil leak has resolved. Hopefully it was really an overfill situation.
Great news!
Don't you just love these type of problem resolutions?
