This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi All, Longtime Rennlist Member, First time on the 996 Board. My wife has a '99 coupe & it has had two leaky mainseals. Has anybody else had repeated problems with the main seal or did the dealer just screw up the install of the second one? My second question is, has anybody found good looking seat covers? We are turning the car into a daily driver and would like to protect the seats from the everyday scrapes etc. Much thanks for your input. FLS

POST 2Original post

I'm not sure but I think some of the 2nd and 3rd RMS are because they are not installed correctly. The TSB makes some very strong points: 1. The micro sealing lip of the sealing ring should never be touched by your hand or lubricated with anything. 2. Do not apply oil or sealant to the outside surface. The sealing ring must be dry when fitted. 3. The special tools must be used to remove and install the sealing ring. It also goes on to remind dealers: "DO NOT USE OLD STOCK FOR REPAIRS" Sorry, can't comment on seat covers.

POST 3Original post

To add to this_ i heard from the service department that with regards to the RMS that they will have a new redesign of the seals to prevent future leaks. Seems like the original seals if not placed right would leak so they said the new ones will take care of it. Did not say when it will be out yet. I had the TSB on the RMS at 9k miles(did it twice because 1st time still leaked) but car now has 30k and it's holding up. Regards. Mike

POST 4Original post

I recall seeing an ad for Wet Okole (neoprene) seat covers in a Pcar catalog or mag somewhere. No personal experience, but my son had them on his SUV and did a great job.
