Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that contain suggestions
1
0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suggestion
Outside of all the US DOT placards and stickers, check the instrumentation, the springs and shocks are 10 mm lower, check the tail, turn and markers too.
Leading evidence: 'Check instrumentation, the springs and shocks are 10 mm lower' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check instrumentation, the springs and shocks are 10 mm lower' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Apart from the steering wheel on the right-hand side and the lights aimed to the left, are there any other differences between the US and UK 996's for 2002? I'm interested in those things which affect the export of the car from the US to the UK such as tail lamps, emission, etc.
Also, can the lights be re-directed or do they have to be replaced?
Thanks for the help.
Outside of all the US DOT placards and stickers, check the instrumentation, the springs and shocks are 10 mm lower, check the tail, turn and markers too. Typically not easy to move a car over here.

2002/3 British specification includes Litronic headlamps with self-levelling as an option. There is no mandatory requirement.
On British spec'd cars the headlights can be adjusted for driving in Continental Europe (methodology described in handbook) so I presume yours will have the same facility in reverse.
Are you bringing the car to the UK or have you found a lemon sucker?
Things have calmed down with the car and it's exactly where it should be in terms of reliability. You must admit that if the roles were reversed you guys would be as p'd off as me. It's not fun running out of gas at midnight, have a non-starting car after a 9 hour flight knowing that your kid needs to go to the emergency room, and then when you do get the car back and taking a long drive the cruise control doesn't work. Anyway, enough said, and if it continues the way it's going I'm going to be a very happy camper. I'm happy now - it's working and boy when it works there's nothing quite like it.
Getting back into a M-B? Probably when my SL55 comes in I will. Had it on order for well over a year. Not saying I'll sell the 996, but I will get the SL for sure. Apart from the reliability issue I haven't really missed my CL500.
My question revolves around going back to the UK. Not to sure whether I will be or not but I want to have all my bases covered in terms of expense (i.e to ship or to sell). Looking at the pictures of the UK 996's the tail lamps look very similar - unlike many US v UK cars. Good to know the lights can be re-directed as that'll save some money and hassle.
I'm not sure how much I'd drive it in the UK as I'll buy a RHD car over there but I'd ship it over so that when I go to the continent I'll be all set.
