So I just noticed this today driving back from autozone. I had my windows up and no music on. I start hearing this fit hissing sound from the engine. I've never heard it before or maybe I just wasn't paying attention or couldn't hear it since I drive with the windows down most of the time.
Could it be the belt? I did a search on here and hissing is generally normal belt noise .
It only happens when I drive if I stop it goes away instantly so I'm assuming it's the belt.
I had the car bumper to bumper inspected 2 weeks ago by gt3 cup mechanics and they said nothing was out of the ordinary
Could it be a piece of paper or leaf sucked into one of the side vents?

Hany checked the vents but it sounds like it's comming directly behind me from the engine.
If you are able, open up the engine cover behind the seats to see if you can localize the sound.
I only hear it when I drive. That may be hard to do. Did some more Internet searching, some people have suggested if the engine cover bolts are not tightened all the way you may her a hissing or air sound.i recently changed my air filter so I may have not tightend a bolt.
SSo found out what it was. Kinda of stupid but made sense. The oil cap latch in the back was not secured and snapped in. This is why I was getting that air woosh hiss sound.
Now I feel like an idiot...
don't be so hard on yourself
glad you've found the root cause...and we can all learn from it too. Thanks for sharing!
I read somewhere that this could be due to a faulty valve near the manifold. Did u experience that vacuum sound again? hope not.
I can't seem to find that article but from memory, it's the "check valve"? not sure...i'm not very mechanically savvy too...sorry
The only valves I recall on the intake manifolds are the two vacuum solenoid valves for the resonance flaps in the cross tubes. Easy enough to find as they're clipped to rails that run between the intake branches. This is the 3.4L M97. Not sure about the other engine models. Wouldn't expect these to hiss unless a tube pulled loose.
Thanks Les. I've checked and they seem fine. Oil latch cap is shut tight too, so the sound had to be coming from somewhere else. So the search continues...
Not closing the oil/ coolant door latch fully one time had me searching for the whoosh culprit when I first got my
Cayman
. That solved my issue.
