Hey Guys,
Hope you all had a Happy New Year. I'm having a bit of an issue with my car, so I'll break it down as simple as possible and HOPEFULLY someone can chime in and help before I end up kicking rocks.
Car: 2010
Porsche Cayman S
Problem: Car goes into limp mode and throws code P1552
Modifications made Just before issue:
IPD Plenum
,
GT3 Throttle Body
, Air Filter, Custom Dyno Tune.
I installed my plenum and throttle body and the very
next
day I went in for a custom dyno tune. The tuning portion took us some time and the actual
Porsche
diagnostic scan tool, but everything worked out great. Fast forward about a month or so (300 miles) and my Check engine light goes on as well as Traction control. My car gets thrown into limp mode (which is SO LIMP it wont even drive) and I have to restart the car every minute while driving in order to keep moving. For quite some time it seemed to only do it if I didn't warm up the car, but today it did it even after a half hour of driving.
I called IPD to talk to Greg and he said it's a good possibility it's the Throttle Body, but NO WARRANTY WHATSOEVER. Not even for less than 300 miles! So I'm trying to figure out if anyone else has had this issue or this code and if it actually is related to the TB or it is something else!
Thank you guys in advance!
P1552 indicates bad or shorted Idle Air Control Valve. It's possible either a wire got pinched, one of the plenum air hoses aren't fully seated or the TB isn't making a good seal on the plenum. Any one of these could manifest itself as an IAC fault.
I get either
MAF sensor
or
DME
faulty for this code. Try the easy stuff first. Make sure all the connections are good on the
MAF sensor
and that you don't have any air leaks after it up to the manifolds. All of this would have been disturbed in installing a plenum and throttle body. Not sure about the gen 2 cars but one of the o-rings that seals the
MAF sensor
was tricky to keep in place on the gen 1 setup. If it was just sort of in place and finally slipped an air leak giving the faulty
MAF sensor
code could be possible.
Yeah it sucks but nobody warranties electrical stuff. I've been there. There usually are a few simple resistance and continuity checks on the throttle body to give you an idea if they're ok. Just a guess but wouldn't be surprised if that applies to the new drive by wire ones too.

Anything you say. I simply passed on what my sources had. Pretty sure the IAC valve went away when the
DME
started directly controlling the throttle.
I certainly don't know for sure as this was purely a google search. It called out IAC or Idle Air Control, I added the word "valve", my bad..... I don't know exactly what the 2010 motor has and it could certainly be a carry over code that means unable to control idle via TB or bad MAF data.
Regardless, I'd suspect something not quite buttoned up in the air intake side post TB or a defective flange between the TB and the Plenum causing a leak so I think we are on the same page (and part of the motor)
When the first Google search I looked at for P1552
Porsche
,
Porsche P1552 OBD/DLC Error Code -
, came up with a no Porshe generic info banner and faults from cam position to IAC to fuel injectors on other models I figured this was into manufacturer specific code ranges. This made me curious enough to look up on alldatadiy.com and paraphrase the gist of what I found.
But yes we're very much on the same page. A leak in that area would give the symptoms described. And a lot easier and cheaper fix than bad throttle bodies or nuked DMEs.
I've had an
IPD plenum
and
GT3
tb on my CSS for 8 mo w/o issues. I did not do an
ECU
flash, however.
WoW, thanks for the prompt responses guys! Seems like it could be quite a few things! I have to go through everything one by one and figure it out. I will post my findings! Thanks again!
Ok Guys....TIME FOR AN UPDATE!
After talking with you guys on the forum and asking around with local PCA members, this is how everything played out:
1) I returned the tune back to the stock file. Problem still happening
2) I got in contact with Greg over at IPD...he agreed to send out another
GT3 Throttle Body
. I sent back the old one and installed the new one. Problem still happening.
3) I decided to swap over the entire plenum and throttle body back to stock. Problem still happening
4) At this point....I am POSITIVE it is a faulty
DME
. I take it to
Porsche
of Conshohocken (Mike Pelberg was AWESOME!) and they come to the same conclusion. Fast forward about 3 days and my new
DME
came in from Germany. They swap the
DME
and the car runs PERFECTLY. They said they have NEVER seen a
DME
go bad. I even asked around to everyone I know and they said that if a tune was to corrupt a
DME
...it would happen instantaneously. I guess my car was merely an anomaly.
Thanks again for all the help guys. I appreciate it. I just had to tackle this problem by process of elimination. If anyone is looking for an
IPD plenum
and
GT3
TB, let me know because I will sell mine. I am far too lazy to reinstall everything again, lol.
-Cheers
