Would you recommend a fuel filter change too and is there anyway to easily check if the coil packs and spark plugs would need doing other than a visual inspection?

You could consider drawing a new line in the sand with fluid change for diff, tiptronic box, a full PPI to see what else it reveals that needs attention.

I'd be tempted to take it to a good Indy in your area for an oil change service (engine and box) and get them to check it over and give you a list of anything that might need doing then you can decide what to do and what can wait until next time.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all. I am new here but have been reading a lot of useful information which gave me the confidence to pick up a 2000 c4 cab tt. I know not everyones first choice but i like it! Its got just over 100k on it and the last owner did circa 400 miles in the 12 months he had it. Anyway the advice i am looking for is what work would you start with. The sevice book has a major service stamps from porschacare 12 months ago and a brake fluid change and the previous owner had a ppi done which highighted some leaks and bolts etc which were taken care of when he got it apparently. As its a 2 year service interval i thought i would do an oil and filter change and also change air filter and too myself so i know its done correctly (then use a specialist next year for a hook stamp). Would you recommend a fuel filter change too and is there anyway to easily check if the coil packs and spark plugs would need doing other than a visual inspection? If its advisabe to just do these too i can add it to the list. The only other things i can think of are gearbox oil and front dif oils too unless i am missing someting. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

:welcome: Twin turbo you mean :dont know: Stick up some pics whilst you're at it :thumb:

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Haha no tiptronic! Wil get some pics loaded when i can.

POST 4Original post

Aha  Tip = Tiptronic :wack: In the meantime, 1st porker, what you had before, where you from, what's you inside leg measurement, favourite corn/bar snack :dont know: :thumb:

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yeah first porker as you say! Had a z4 before and running this as a second car with a range rover as the daily but always fancied one and wih the prices as they are you cant go wrong! (Well unless it explodes) Wanna make sure i get it in good inital fetal so i give it the best chance of running as well as possible and am ok on the spanners myself so getting a few things done should be easy enough! Just need to get a plan together get the bits ordered and get cracking!

POST 6Original post

Are you sure it's a 2 year service interval for your car? I thought it was annual until the 2003/4 model year when they changed to 2 year service intervals... My 2002 is certainly on annual services alternating minor/major etc

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Pretty sure thats what i read in the sevice guide book but could be wrong as it seemed a bit long hence why i thought it would be best do a self service this year smd then get the stamp next year! Will double check it. Assuming its a trip to a garage for a minor this year what else would you then suggest on top that i can do like plugs etc? Is it worth it if the cars not misfiring etc as i don't know when these items were last changed and do the coils too or leave them if they arent showing any signs of cracking?

POST 8Original post

Well you could always ring porschacare and ask them what they did at the major 12 months ago as they may well have done plugs and coils etc I'd be tempted to take it to a good Indy in your area for an oil change service (engine and box) and get them to check it over and give you a list of anything that might need doing then you can decide what to do and what can wait until next time. There's lots of stuff that 'could' be done but equally many of them would be overkill if everything is working correctly for the moment.

POST 9Original post

Congratulations, now get some pics up! Your car has now reached an age and mileage where you may want to do the maintenance yourself especially as you are reasonably proficient at twiddling the spanners. It's a C4 cabrio tip so probably not deemed to be a desirable model for future investment (but still a great car :thumb so you have less to lose on resale value if you plan to keep the car a while and will save thousands of ££££ avoiding OPC/Indy servicing & repairs over the years. It's also rewarding to maintain & improve your P&J. These are easy cars to work on for routine jobs and the majority of parts can be sourced cheaply. Did you get a thorough PPI inspection? If not get one done and start to fix the faults. Get a decent manual and use the search function on this forum, ask questions if you can't find what you need. It's a friendly place and they are some very knowledgeable folk who are generous with their assistance. Good luck, my car needed a Major service at 104,000m which I've done most of myself in a day. (This suggestion goes out the window if you happen to use Alex Yates' mechanic who seems to work tirelessly for small change, wish we had a few of those down South)

POST 10Original post

The service book stamp with Porschacare will tick if spark plugs were changed with the Major Service. There is separate page for brake fluid changes to he stamped. You could consider drawing a new line in the sand with fluid change for diff, tiptronic box, a full PPI to see what else it reveals that needs attention.

POST 11Original post

2004 and on is 2 year servicing , prior to that is annual servicing . Plugs are at 4 years so check service book. Visual inspection of the coil packs .. you are looking for cracks in the plastic caseing... misfire when wet if so . Belt is at 6 years so again check service book. I would remove the drive belt and check water pump and pully are all noise free and have no play. I would remove the rear arch liners , remove the rubber disc on the drain if still fitted and clean out that area as per image. If possible have every pipe waxoiled .. so all undertrays off and a good doseing .. a garage might be best here but its good preventative maintence . Check the brake pipes n/s and center .. its under an L shaped panel .. there is a brake block there joining front to rear .. check the pipes in the brackets each side .. very common to corrode badly there . Its worth jacking up and haveing a check of play top/bottom and side to side of every wheel. Have a look o/s/f and wheel on a full right hand down at the power steering pipes .. if the ferrel has cracked on the low pressure then it needs a jubilee clip on it . Have a good look at the exhaust .. seams splitting , clamps corroded etc etc Tip oil and filter .. thats a must and if not done needs to be . I think thats enough for now

POST 12Original post

He still hasn't invoiced me for my service early May

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks deMort thats a decent list to get started with. I cant find anywhere in the guarantee and maintenance book where plugs and belts etc being replaced is detailed. There is just a tick for yearly maintenance then minor or major maintenance and the date and mileage. There is a brake fluid one but nothing else which leaves me a bit in the dark.

POST 14Original post

With the major service then some garages do plugs as part of that service , you will need old invoices really to see . It should have also been ticked in the service book and it will have had them at some point .. its just when ! I would suggest if you havent got any history then get a major with plugs done .. the bits i listed above to check will be done at that service .. if you have a drive belt done as well then the pullys will be checked. I would also clear out the drains in the image above on that service but not all garages will do that so you need to ask . Or do it yourself which is a lot cheaper , you have a well respected bunch of people here that can answer Any question so you wont get stuck and its far more satisfying. No history and i strongly advise a Tip box oil and filter change ... a garage job really unless your a masochist !

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks again all. I have some invoices but not a full breakdown and just the stamps in the book but 40k ago it was advised a gearbox service as the sump was leaking and its not leaking now so i can assume that was done. Will compile a list and get some done at a local specialist and some myself so i know its definately done and then i have a clean start as suggested above. I think as long as i keep the invoices for items purchased and a log that will create a good history for the next owner but i plan to keep it for a while. Its the old question of do the work yourself and save a few ££s but loose it at resale time but how much can you actually loose on these things based on where the market it at! All spannered out today after doing the rear drop links on the range rover hope the porker is easier than that!
