Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hi all, I recently aquired a very nice Arctic Silver 2007 Cayman. (40K miles) After doing much reading here, I decided as a preventative measure, to replace the expansion tank cap, as mine has the -00 suffix. I ordered one from Paragon, what was listed as the direct replacement. The one I recieved is much too small. It was marked with the correct part number on the bag, and is the -04 version off the cap. However, I quickly noticed several differences, other than the size. My original cap has an inset, round, rubber o-ring gasket.....set in a groove. The new cap has a flat gasket, akin to a standard radiator cap. My original cap appears to be the OEM cap, blue, Germany, with the -00 part number, but it looks different than any of the pictures I have seen on-line that feature the replacement. Has anyone else noticed their original cap having the slim o-ring gasket? Has anyone else had a problem with receiving a cap that was too small? I know this may be worthless w/o pics, but I didn't want to keep taking my old cap on/off, as it does seem like it leaks a little every time I do so. If anything, please refer me to somewhere that has the correct cap. The folks at Paragon are starting to take the line that I am crazy......when clearly the cap they sent is dead-wrong, or was packaged wrong. I am no mechanic, but I can screw on/off a cap!!....lol Thanks

POST 2Original post

Just to be clear, you're talking about the cap UNDER the removable engine cover on the expansion tank not the one in the boot next to your oil filler cap right?

POST 4Original post

Sorry!! #7 (if that is next to oil) , it is the one in the boot, next to oil fill /back of car/ inside interior. Thx

Perhaps you meant to buy part numbers 996 107 035 52 and 996 107 336 00? Pelican Parts - Product Information: OEM-99610703552 http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin...600&SuperCat=Y&SVSVSI=&catalog_description=Genuine Porsche Part: RUBBER GASKET#

POST 6Original post

Paragon just hit me back.....I think we may have it sorted. Jason told me that what he thinks I needed is what Porsche refers to as "the cup" cap? Perhaps the one I recieved initially is for the one under the cowl, in the engine bay. If so, maybe I should keep it, and get the other as well, just to be on the safe side. I did notice that the one in the boot area (cup) does tend to leak a bit too into cup itself. Thanks for those who responded, and feel free to correct me if my assumption is wrong! This is all new to me.......first Porsche, hell first non USA car......and I've had many.

POST 7Original post

Ah - you were talking about the 'cup'...my previous diagram showed the expansion tank. Here we go - the cup...and you are looking for part #5 (and gasket#6) right next to the oil filler cap (#3).

POST 8Original post

curious if either of you have replaced that breather hose #14 in the above diagram? How does one reach in there to do so? mine likes when i shut the vehicle off and once i let it cool and open the fill cap #5 in your second diagram, its creates a pressure surge that make it leak faster from the breather/vent hose mentioned. any insight would be appreciated. thank you
