Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

25 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • PistonHeads: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

From Porches newsroom. Seems us Gen 2'ers are fresh out of luck.

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am surprised no replies on this, I guess not many Gen 2 owners were holding out for the PCCM+

POST 3Original post

Will just use iPhone stuck on dash when needed. Spend the difference on petrol :-)

I was and thats a proper shame - nearly went with a hi spec Pioneer AVIC earlier in the year but pulled it as I heard about these Maybe it just means we are further down the queue...

Old news. I'm still hoping that Porsche will include 987.2 in a couple of years.

thenobbler said: Apologies for the thread hi-jack (just a little one), Julian987R please PM me re Olympic Blue? Tried to PM you, your profile is se to not allow emails. It seems I haven't got Private mail access nor ability to contact PM. If by chance it is related to the 981, I then noted a comment about steering wheel and paddles which lead me to assume it is pDK, which I wouldn't want regrettably, but you can PM me via Cayman OC forum. Thanks

POST 11Original post

Could not care less about upgrading PCM in my 7.2 3s. They are for driving with a brilliant sound system hanging out over the rear axle. If I need navigation, my iPhone does the trick better than any built in system.

POST 12Original post

Reminds me of s radio advert for the 911 in the late 70s which referred to a symphony in 12 valves as a reason not to install a radio (optional).

POST 13Original post

julian987R said: I am surprised no replies on this, I guess not many Gen 2 owners were holding out for the PCCM+ I went back from 997.2 to 997.1. The PCM in the .2 whilst flawed, was far better than that in the .1. I'm interested in PCCM+ if it means I can ditch the Nav DVD in the boot and reclaim the space!

POST 17Original post

Interesting! So you cannot plumb this into a 7.2??

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Fl0pp3r said: Interesting! So you cannot plumb this into a 7.2?? i think it is Gen 2 supported but the issues I see are low res carpay only by wire - which means a cable hanging out the front....which will look a mess. Why no wireless Carplay? no backup cam support. I think its a bit of a lame release and wonder if the nmautomotive or the forthcoming https://www.mr12volt.com/collections/frontpage/pro... which uses M.O.S.T. bus connection to deliver top notch digital audio and 15 bars DSP equalizer for full sound customization and will do carplay wirelessy. isnt that better in many ways?

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

or is it gen 1 only? its not clear.

POST 20Original post

That looks like it is 987.1 only. Not compatible with 987.2

POST 21Original post

Wow, looks good but the functionality seems very underwhelming. Can't think that microphone will be much use (especially on RHD cars), a cable for AirPlay... really... loss of CD (important for old schoolers like me). Given the bezel colour I assume this is 997.1 only (PCM 2.1 replacement). Edited by RiccardoG on Thursday 12th May 13:19

POST 22 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

There is a black version though…would that not suggest gen2 too?

POST 23 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Vipercaymanr said: I think a version for 987.2 will be along sooner or later. Seems odd they have seemingly made this a bit naff. I agree. After such a long wait (and there must be thousands of people waiting for it) it all looks rather disappointing.

POST 24Original post

Depends on what you really want. All i need is bluetooth and digital radio, wireless CarPlay would be lovely but it’s not that big a deal when i can just plug the phone in. These units have proved very popular in the 9x6 despite not being as functionally rich, and the used market seems to value them when fitted.

It is so behind the technology curve that one wonders what was the point of it. Apples and Oranges with the 996 as that car is a dinosaur tech wise. you say very popular but I have read many threads of disappointment which act as a temperature check on just how popular it really is.
