Hey everyone, just curious if this is a factory piece or something else. The car does not have a clear bra or anything and hasn’t in the past, but these small black spots are forming underneath, sort of like the “clear bra has mold underneath” posts I’ve seen.
It’s on the body-colored pieces on either side of the fog lamps right in front of the radiators and ac condenser intakes. Close up picture attached.
so my question is, are these factory, if I peel them off to clean underneath I should replace them? Or do I just peel them off and be done with them entirely?
cheers
I'm not a Cayman specialist nor have I owned one. Having said that and after owning three Porsche cars? I don't think that top piece is factory at all. (the piece with residual car wax) I think that area is usually like the bottom piece, open for flow to the radiators but I could be completely wrong as well. (seems like I was all week)
I've had two 987 Caymans so I know the cars well. Those are known as "foglight spears", and someone has applied a paint protection film on them. Most likely the whole front of the car had it at one time and it was removed due to age. You can pull it off the spears as well.
As for the black plastic part behind that Boris mentioned, that is normal for the part of the grille above the spear. The white wax residue can be cleaned off easily.
Yep, those are custom pieces cut from a protective film kit for that particular car. All protective film guys use custom cut parts like that similar to how vinyl sign graphics are made. It's either leftover from someone removing the rest of it, or there is a clear bra elsewhere on the front but the OP just isnt aware of it yet. Likely the former as there would typically be noticeable cruddy edges like that elsewhere on the larger panels as well.
Thanks so much for your input everyone. They seemed aftermarket to me too - I’m pretty sure the whole bumper had film at one point but when I bought it a few years ago it was already gone. Now the Florida humidity has made those “spears” a bit ugly and yep - that’s my own home wax job residue stuck there that I need to clean off!
I’ll peel those right off and get to scrubbing. Thanks again
I would recommend a little heat to remove them. A blown dryer or heat gun set on low.

Upgrade (black) LED spars you see on a lot of 987s ($250) -
LED Spars
A clothes steamer also works well.
