Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

If it was me I would just wait to paint the new ones when you replace the rotors after they are worn.

Im thinking of using the same paint to paint the calipers silver.

Suggestion

I would use some sand paper to knock the rust off then cut a hole in a piece of card board the size of the hat then slide it down over the hat to protect the rotor from getting paint on it and paint the hat.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

OK all you rust experts, take a look at this wheel. My right rear shows this but none of the others have even a spot. Is this something to worry about? Not worried about the rotors (just washed the car, so they are slightly discolored), but this rusty spot is a concern. The car is just about 4 years old (warranty expires in 60 days) with 27K miles and in excellent condition.

POST 2Original post

Eric, nothing to worry about. That is the just hat to your rotor, it is all one piece and will rust just like the rest of the rotor. I usually paint the hats of my rotors with an aluminum silvery looking high temprature engine paint (available at any auto parts store) before I install them to keep them looking nice. If you are concerned you could pull the wheel then pull the rotor and paint the hats on yours and it would go away. I would use some sand paper to knock the rust off then cut a hole in a piece of card board the size of the hat then slide it down over the hat to protect the rotor from getting paint on it and paint the hat. Very easy to do. If it was me I would just wait to paint the new ones when you replace the rotors after they are worn. Take care, Scott PS, anxiously awaiting the return of my painted bumperettes.

POST 3Original post

Eric, I removed the excessive rust and then painted mine with heat resitant paint. SO far it has worked well. Im thinking of using the same paint to paint the calipers silver. ONly a thought so far.
