Suspected cause

Because MAF, Fuel Pressure, and Fuel Volume would all most likely affect both banks, the more probable cause is an air leak, dodgy injector, or exhaust leak.

thanks guys ive ordered a maf just to be on the safe side i had it tested on a porsche diagnostic and i cant remember whether it was both banks or not the trouble is it takes three weeks for the light to come back on,i bought a code reader off ebay which can reset the light but i did reset it as soon as it came on the second time so the other code as you say may not have come on that soon i will put the new maf in as soon as it gets here run it for a few weeks and if it comes on the job of looking for an air leak or exhaust leak will begin.a will keep you informed of the progress and many thanks for the advise.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

my engine light comes on about every three weeks and shows code p1130 also idle revs seem a bit low and lumpy at fluctuating between about 600 and 640 can anybody point me in the right direction? i have cleaned the maf and throttle body but it has come back on.any help would be great. thanks. mark

POST 2Original post

P1130 Porsche fault code 361 - Oxygen Sensing Adaptation Idle Range Bank 2 Either your MAF is dead (they last say 50k miles and die quicker with oiling from a K&N style filter and repeated cleaning) or you have unmetered air entering the engine after the MAF or a leak in the exhaust system, or a faulty injector (fuel pressure). The low idle is because the car is running too lean. Any other symptoms: Smoke, smells? Do you have a performance filter/induction kit? Still most probably the MAF. Get it tested on a diagnostics machine (PIWIS/PST2) - or stick a new one in or swap with someone's whose works (obviously it has to be the same MAF model) - if your's is fine and their's dies - QED! Use the Audi/VW parts department or GSF/EuroCarParts etc - far cheaper than OPC. Just quote the part number on the side. About £150. For Cable (non-eGas <2000) OPC 996.606.123.00 BOSCH: 0280 217 007 For eGas (Drive-by-Wire, all C4, C2 > 2000): OPC: 996 606 124 00 BOSCH: 0 280 218 009 OPC: 996 606 125 01 BOSCH: 0 280 218 055 The above depend on the ECU software version - CHECK THE PART NO ON YOUR MAF (or call the OPC and have them confirm via chassis number etc)

POST 3Original post

A bad MAF would affect BOTH banks. Most likely your problem is an air leak or injector(s).

POST 4Original post

Sometimes P1128 takes a few days (or drive cycles) to appear, if the MAF is dead. That is why the MAF needs health diagnosed first. Otherwise, the other air leaks/issues listed are probable. Check for any obvious leaks on induction and/or exhaust. The reason I asked about smoke or smells is that contamination of the sensors by oil or coolant can trigger a single bank error.

POST 5Original post

But if it was the MAF he would get P1130 AND P1128. If he is getting P1130 consistently, then it would indicate a problem on Bank 2 only. A problem with the MAF would affect both banks. Because MAF, Fuel Pressure, and Fuel Volume would all most likely affect both banks, the more probable cause is an air leak, dodgy injector, or exhaust leak. You would probably hear an exhaust leak, and because the car runs rough, I think it more likely to be an air leak, as a bad injector would throw up a fault of its own.

POST 6Original post

Just saying the P1128 error may be delayed, obviously if it doesn't appear it is a P1130 problem only. The bank 2 sensor could be defective/contaminated too.

POST 7Original post

Oh, I see what you mean. Maybe he is resetting it before it gets a chance for P1128 to come up. I don't think it would be the O2 sensor on bank 2, as that would show an ageing fault or similar. Are the faults being read with a Porsche tester or Durametric, or a generic code reader?

POST 8Original post

Ultimately, we appear to be trying to prioritise a number of theoretical probabilities with the same few incomplete, and currently inconclusive, details.

POST 9Original post

Have you had the bank 2 oxygen sensor output checked? It should show a zig-zag 'graph' on it's output as the ECU varies the fuel mixture according to the input it recieves from the oxygen sensor. If this is flatlining (not sensing oxygen changes), that could be the problem. Had mine diagnosed at Sports and Classic, where they explained all the above. Changed the oxygen sensor and it steadied the idle / stopped the engine light coming on etc.

POST 12Original post

Well, if you don't need the MAF when it arrives (assuming it is the same part no. as mine), I'll take it off your hands.

POST 13Original post

PM forum member Lloyd Six, as he is very competitive for original Bosch MAF sensors.

POST 14Original post

I've already requested prices last night on the three different models. Lloyd is reporting back tomorrow am when he gets in to work.

POST 15Original post

OK, Lloyd came back with prices for the eGas variety: Obviously these prices may fluctuate over time/currency and how many you want. 0280 218 009 = £193 all in, inc. UK recorded post. 0280 218 055 = £225 all in, inc. UK recorded post.
