For GB plates, I used a small magnetic one that stuck in the grove under the rear spoiler, just cleaned the paint before sticking it on to avoid scratches, and it was fine.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi All, Misses is taking me to the Belgium GP for my birthday present - hurrah. Course there are a million ways to get there, but we thought why not take the 911. I see porscheshop do a special headlight conversion film: PorscheShop Link Or will a standard halfords jobbie do the trick? Halfords Link Also, I dont have EU plates on the car, whats the best approach for not knacking paintwork and attaching a GB sticker / magnet / ? As always thanks in advance.

POST 2Original post

When I popped over to Brussels in the Turbo I just used the Halford jobbies. they did just fine. Had to use some nail cleaner to get the sticky stuff after, but other than that no probs. Sticker wise I used a small motorbike sticker and seemed to get away with it. No tickets and no stops. Hope you enjoy your trip mate. Jim

POST 3Original post

I went on a 2 week trip round europe last year, and doing the same in France this year. My local Indy (RGA) switched out my headlights for some LHD ones they had kicking about, which was very convenient. Cost me 30mins labour, all in. For GB plates, I used a small magnetic one that stuck in the grove under the rear spoiler, just cleaned the paint before sticking it on to avoid scratches, and it was fine. I had a spare sticky one with me just incase it came off though. Make sure you read the requirements for driving in Europe, some countries require you to carry spare bulbs for e.g. The AA has a good page on different requirements. - Steve

POST 4Original post

When everything else fails read the instructions: Page 146 :dont know:

POST 5Original post

And first aid kit and high visibility vest for each passenger.... warning triangle et cetera et cetera Pip

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

You guys are the best! I wonder how practical it is to convert the headlights back on the eurostar - traveling back at midnight? Does anyone know is there a nice pack of light bulbs you can get for the 996?

POST 7Original post

I've a feeling that the alan key headlight switching thing is only there on post facelift cars, but could well be wrong. I got a set of bulbs (phillips I think) in a convienient polystyrene pack from a website. You say what model you have and what year, and they post out the right set. - Steve

POST 8Original post

All projector headlamps of the 996.2 ("crying eyes") have shutters. You must have Litronic/xenons on 996.1 ("fried eggs") to get shutter adjustment. (see next page THREE for 996.1 manual scan)

POST 9Original post

And dont forget , when in france and maybe other countries, the safety vest must be inside the car and handy for you to put on before you get out of the car. French police have been pulling over cars, inviting you to get out and when you get out sans warning vest then giving you a fine...... :judge:  Might be easier to just wear it all the time when driving in europe.....

POST 12Original post

Basically get a kit like this: Spare Bulbs GB sticker or GB Euroflag Number Plate High Visibility Jacket (1 for each person travelling in the car in Spain and in France two are recommended) Headlamp Converters (or use onboard shutters) Warning Triangle First Aid Kit Fire Extinguisher. I have a full kit all in one bag.

POST 14Original post

I'll take TWO. For French purposes, you understand.

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

apw2007 - I can see why thats a safety vest, imagine the accidents if she didnt have it on by the side of the road. Some good pointers there thanks guys! And now an ignoramus question: I have a 2001 3.4 - has clear light covers. I assume the facelift happened at the same time as the 3.6 upgrade? Which would make mine pre-facelift?
