Suggestion

What is a winner is the absence of a PX - no hassle involved for the delare to clean/prep sale/sell on etc so I bet this would get you at least £1k off.

Suggestion

My advice spongebob is to decide on your price, inspect car and paperwork and set cash on table and explain that this is a once only offer for today only, then don't move on price!

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Whats everyones feelings? Im considering a 996 facelift, its a car i viewed about 8 months ago, its a minta but has lost crazy money over those 8 months (8k) Price up for sale then to now. Is there still a way to go down? Have 996's bottomed out now? Ive also got a 993 in mind, im thinking thats a safer bet financially, its up on miles 80K though, too high? Its the old 80 plus affects values again, the 996 has only 42K. Both have bullet proof servive history. The 996 all main dealer. Now condsidering a 996 over a 993 is bordering on the insane i know :hand: , but its a special 996. And Mrs Spongebob would definitely approve. But is there still a packet to lose on a 996?

POST 2Original post

Any man who will accept an £8.000 drop on a car will accept a £10,000 drop! Mark my word! My advice spongebob is to decide on your price, inspect car and paperwork and set cash on table and explain that this is a once only offer for today only, then don't move on price!

POST 5Original post

For whatever reason the seller is determined to sell.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I like your style ACHTUNG :floor: Unfortunately the 996 is at one of those 'supermarkets' and ive tried that tactic before at such establishments, i fear the price compared with others in the facelift variety is already rock bottom, considering mileage/history, they have under priced it really.. To them its just a car... Some numpty has obviously just traded it in against some crappy eurobox. But yes its worth a try

POST 7Original post

Set CASH on the table and watch him licking his lips. Explain that the car will be gone out of his forecourt within 1/2 an hour.

POST 8Original post

If what I am reading this morning about the economic outlook for the next 12 months is accurate, I suspect that prices for readily available superceded by later better model cars, Porsche or otherwise, are not exactly going to harden.

POST 9Original post

Making a Cash offer definitely has a place in the market and always has and its no skin off your nose to do so.. Just be prepared for people to say NO.. it does not always work and you end up loosing the car you want if its a derisory offer particularly in the trade. The 996 would seem to continue in a downward spiral, not withstanding some of the well discussed issues they are a great car for the money and the majority Ive seen have had any issues sorted by previous owners (not unlike other variants).

POST 10Original post

Try the 10k off, what have you got to lose apart from 2k? If needs be, turn and walk when he says no, you can always go back later. If they put pride before a sale there is always another car or you can try again at 9k, later 8k. Depends on how far the seller will go and how badly they want to sell.

POST 11Original post

Which variant of 996 is it? If its the C4S, Anniversary or even the Turbo then I'd say you shouldn't lose too much. ~ Maxie

POST 12Original post

er, is it me, or should we not be trying to preserve the 996 market, instead of killing it? :?:

POST 13Original post

I am not too sure that CASH is a winner at these places given that they arrange finance and will obviously take a commission if it so arranged. Cash is good at small garages but large places they are not interested - tried it before and failed. What is a winner is the absence of a PX - no hassle involved for the delare to clean/prep sale/sell on etc so I bet this would get you at least £1k off. Probably more.

POST 14Original post

Actually, good call Spectraluk. I feel I lost a lot on the resale of my Targa 996. That was a fairly well specced 2003 MY with 15k miles bought for £37.5k in March 2007, sold for £23.5k in August 2010 with 39k miles. That's approaching £5k depreciation per year. I would hate to see 996 prices fall more than they already have. The ones at the bottom of the spectrum going for £16k are a little misleading for the novice buyer because they will still cost the same as a £60k 911 to service and run. ~ Maxie
