I have looked at some turbos for sale on a New Zealand version of AutoTrader and for the same spec as mine they are commanding £40,000, yes mine is a CAT D, BUT when it gets to NZ no one would know that as the only reason it got wrote off was due to vandalism and no crash damage, so for 26k he is getting a good deal, he might even be a dealer and retail it as an original car for 40k!

Suggestion

Maybe I'm too wary but I would hold out for a UK buyer and get everything checked and double-checked before handing your car over.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

need some advice as some of you may have gone through what is being proposed to me. So i'v got my turbo for sale on eBay and theres an individual really interested in the car, except he is from NEWZEALAND! Iv checked him out and the company he owns etc and it all looks ok, we are now at the stage of talking about him arranging a shipping company etc My question is, what is the safest means of transferring money from him to me with NO POSSIBLE comebacks on me ie if the money he sends turns out to be: 1. Stolen or 2. from someone elses hacked bank account 3. Laundered money etc etc I dont want to send the car on its way then even with the money in my bank I dont want the bank ringing me saying there debiting it back out as its dodgy then iv lost my car. Thanks guys (kiwi may help here

POST 2Original post

Sorry I haven't been in your position so can't offer any relevant advice, but... ...honestly, I would be very, very careful with this, it would be very easy to get ripped off I suspect. Maybe I'm too wary but I would hold out for a UK buyer and get everything checked and double-checked before handing your car over.

POST 3Original post

Isn't there something called 'escrow' :?: Never used it, but I think there's solicitors involved somewhere who hold the money until everything is done, If the buyer doesn't want solicitors involved, that may be an alarm bell ? Or just plain and simple do the deal through solictors, Oh, and my brother may be able to help with the specialist shipping, but that's not why I'm posting this...

POST 5Original post

Talk to your bank. They will be able to tell you the safest way to do it. My advice would be not to let the car or documents out of your sight until you know the cash is safely in your account, and you know it can't be removed by anyone but yourself. If the buyer isn't happy with that, walk away. As a matter of interest, does your car qualify for VAT? I believe that such cars do create an interest outside the EU, as VAT would not be charged on an export.

POST 6Original post

You obviously have a rather unique 996TT - but the buyer is so keen that he's willing to ship it from the other side of the world (which I can only assume is costing thousands rather than hundreds of pounds?), Australia is a (comparatively) short hike away and he simply can't find a car that he wants from there? If this is all fact then good for you! If you want to make sure that everything is water-tight then just make sure that his funds have cleared in you bank, then move the money to another account, inform your bank of what you're doing and the reasons why - all before the car leaves your side. Surely then you'll be fine - unless he's not too happy with that arrangement..? Be nice to hear how this one pans-out! All the best!

POST 7Original post

I would say if the guy checks out then and he is happy to pay you cleared funds, then go for it. I recently put my64 on mobile.de (I'm in france), and have had six or seven firm offers for th Ivory coast (Which I guess is the French equivalent to Nigeria) when it comes to scams

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I dont know about the VAT issue, he hasnt mentioned it. I have looked at some turbos for sale on a New Zealand version of AutoTrader and for the same spec as mine they are commanding £40,000, yes mine is a CAT D, BUT when it gets to NZ no one would know that as the only reason it got wrote off was due to vandalism and no crash damage, so for 26k he is getting a good deal, he might even be a dealer and retail it as an original car for 40k! and make a quick 14k! Ill keep the thread updated

POST 9Original post

The import duties for cars into NZ are horrendous - that's why the local cars are £40k+. The buyer will still have to pay duty, so there won't be £14k margin in it for him. The reason I asked about VAT, is that a company can reclaim the VAT on a new car in certain circumstances, but have to charge VAT when they sell it. If the car is exported outside the EU the buyer does not have to pay the VAT, so it becomes 17.5% cheaper. Be very careful, and take proper advice before committing. It may be a perfectly genuine buyer, but we all know so many are scams.
