When driving it home (sub 45F) I heard a whining noise the entire way that changed with the rpms and was loud enough to drown out the exhaust.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hey all, new cayman owner for about a week. I was driving the other day and happened to spot a shiny spot on my clutch pedal when I got home. Upon further inspection I saw a drip forming on the clutch master cylinder. My brake fluid reservoir is still full, and clutch doesn’t slip. It makes some squeaks and creaks when I push it in before starting though. Shifting is a little rough and I’ve been chasing a clanking noise since I’ve got it. I’m going to replace it, but could I have done any damage? Thanks for any insight! -Matt

POST 2Original post

Just my opinion, the clanking noise and rough shifting are more concerning than the drip unless they are related issues. If said noise is related to the leak, (compromised transmission function) that could be bad. You really can't speculate with the limited clues you posted. Whatever it is I'd identify it ASAP, knowledge is power, that way you can decide what the path forward is. Squeaks? Are you speaking of squeaks upon clutch depression? My 986 pedal and the associated joinery also squeaked.

POST 3Original post

Yes, the squeak is just when I depress it cold. I didn’t give too much thought to it until I saw the drip. You can hear the clank and whining in my post here: 08 cayman s noises Hey all, just got my 08 CS and I’m having some issues. I had a PPI and all was good. When driving it home (sub 45F) I heard a whining noise the entire way that changed with the rpms and was loud enough to drown out the exhaust. I brought it to my mechanic and my belt was worn and idler pulley... www.planet-9.com

POST 5Original post

I'd replace the cylinder and bleed/flush the entire brake/clutch circuit. The clanging noise isn't likely associated with the clutch master cylinder, but the rough shifting could be if the clutch isn't fully disengaging when the pedal is depressed. You want to attend to that since driving it that way will cause excess wear on the synchronizer rings.
