My car was in a significant rear-quarter accident before I got it (rear quarter, bumper, broken wheel, tail light, spoiler), but was repaired by a certified Porsche repair shop and all the documentation was provided.

Suggestion
Cars, especially Porsches, that have been in an accident and repaired are worth less than before the repair, even if the repair is done well.

Now that the tires are on I can hardly see the deficit , and may leave well enough alone, use the money to get them properly road force balanced ( was not done and in my opinion the only way to balance tires ) and get two tires to match the new rears .
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

One of those days
Parked and some older gent comes out of a parking lot , fly's over the curb and proceeds to sideswipe my
Cayman
.
Results in punctured tire, damaged rim and scrapes and dents to the rear quarter panel lower fender .
Fortunately he stopped and his insurance now involved BUT .. I have a few thoughts before I battle them , and would like opinions from this select group
Body work - I believe any competent shop should be able to repair , but a lot of the deep scratches are on the "plastic back part of the rear quarter panel - is that fixable in anyone's experience or is a new back "plastic fender " what I should insist on
More importantly - the tire. It will be replaced , but I feel I should insist it be done in pairs. I would not replace just one . One would be new the other with 25,000 mi They wont match and they wont be the same - thoughts ?
The rim, a small chunk out of the rim- can this be fixed -or should I demand a new one, or just not worry about it ?
Thanks in advance !

Sorry to hear but there should be no problem getting this repaired.
You should demand a pair of new tires for the reason you gave. I'd also demand a new wheel. I believe the plastic bumper cover will also need to be replaced.
I'm not sure about the laws in your state, but you should look into a diminished value claim. Cars, especially Porsches, that have been in an accident and repaired are worth less than before the repair, even if the repair is done well. In Virginia, your be entitled to a rental and diminished value.

Just my opinion but maybe leave diminished value out of it. This blemish although aggravating for sure is not an accident that causes any structural damage or mechanical impact on driving dynamics. They're going to shoot the bumper cover and replace the rest with new, car will be as new if the work is done in a competent shop.
I understand why you say that and I'm not in disagreement. However, someone with a wad of cash and a friend with a good body shop can thwart Carfax if the accident was a solo event without a police report. It's a decent tool but has a lot of room for inaccuracy. My car has had none of it's scheduled maintenance at a dealer, I'm sure Carfax would show it as neglected, meantime it has been treated like family. A repair like this one is a ground ball for a good shop. The seam at the bumper cover transition might be a challenge if it was driven out of shape. I don't like any body work but I wouldn't consider this car ruined by any stretch. It's still tough to take, I understand how frustrated JamesBond must feel. Truly only an inch or three and it doesn't happen, better yet attentive practiced driving and it doesn't happen.
Here's what some jack-wagon did to me a few weeks back.
He was being aggressive riding my a** then proceeded to try to accelerate and pass me, side-swiping my rear-quarter in the process. He then fled the scene up the freeway (the original accident was on the service road).
I called 911 and followed him 15 miles until he finally pulled into a local gas station/smokehouse (it's TX, so we have those things). He got out of his pickup all bowed-up yelling at me to question why I was following him. I waited back a bit in my car until the cops arrived about 30 seconds later, as I had been on the phone with them the whole time. Anyway, he claimed he didn't realize he had hit me, which is why he drove off, despite the fact that I pulled up next to him a couple times honking my horn and waving to try to get him to pull over.
Insurance is paying-up, but I've been without the car 4 weeks so far. Mine is a 2014 and is my daily-driver with 81K miles on it. I figured I would go ahead and fix a couple other cosmetic issues while I have it in, which is part of the reason it's taking so long, but honestly it's taken all this time to get the parts for the rear-end anyway. For a 987 it might take even longer.
Regarding diminished value... My car was in a significant rear-quarter accident before I got it (rear quarter, bumper, broken wheel, tail light, spoiler), but was repaired by a certified Porsche repair shop and all the documentation was provided. When I bought the car, it was about 2 1/2 years old with 22K miles, with 1 1/2 years remained under the original manufacturers warranty. The prior accident got me about 25% off the purchase price in a private sale compared to a CPO at a local dealer with similar options and mileage. Diminished value is a thing, but as the car ages, but has not yet become classic, it's hard to get the insurance to pay-up unless it's yours and you are insured for agreed value.
I had a very similar boop on my
987.2
about 3 months ago, but mine included a chipped taillight so besides the bumper cover the taillight was replaced. It took the Porsche Certified body shop 4 days to get the parts and complete the repair.. all brand new OE Porsche parts from Porsche. I'd question why it's taking this long to get the parts.
thanks guys , there was a police report filed because the guy that hit me called them . The body shop is in the works of getting her sorted . He mentioned diminished value and in our state it cannot be considered until the car is fixed to my satisfaction and then I file with the guys insurance . Ill wait and see about that . In the meantime Im driving a chevy equinox ( lol) Thanks for all the input . I let you know the final resolve . One issue I may have to deal with it getting a "certified " statement with some authority behind it that states I need to replace tires in pairs ( per axle) I know I read it somewhere in Porsche manufactures info. Just gotta find it . If you have a source , let me know
Thanks again

manual, the tire replacement section says "Tires should be replaced no less than on one axle at the time." and "Only tires of the same make and type must be
used. Mixed tires are not permissible." That should be enough to get you what you need?
That sucks!! Back ordered stuff. I ordered tires for my 997 back in June… they just came 245/315 and the season is over here… damn it!! Sooooo glad I had the 987CS
got her back , good as new ( perhaps better) two new Continental Extreme contact DWS sports in the rear . Still waiting on the rim , but released the car and gave me the money to source a new one. Now that the tires are on I can hardly see the deficit , and may leave well enough alone, use the money to get them properly road force balanced ( was not done and in my opinion the only way to balance tires ) and get two tires to match the new rears . I am a little concerned on the integrity of the rim , so will see if it is still "true" and go from there.
