So, car has been running pretty rough, and I was getting a few codes that lead me to replacing the
AOS
.
AOS
is replaced and man does the car run so much better (baffle in
AOS
had a tear as well as the casing was leaking, when I smoke tested the intake/vac system).
Erased the codes and after driving about 12 mi the CEL came on and got the P2097 - post catalyst, rich. Wondering if this typically is the cat going back or just a faulty sensor? Havent found a clear answer on which thru my research.
Your catalytic may have been contaminated due to excess oil vapor in your
exhaust
. I have no idea if it will help, but there is
catalytic converter
cleaner
catalytic converter cleaner - Google Search
I have no idea if it works and have never used any (a Google search might turn up opinions).. just offering it for a cheapish thing to try that might help keep the code away.
I would clean and inspect the sensor as a start point, old GF with a VW was quoted $1500 for a new cat. Slapped a $25 sensor in it from ebay, CEL gone.
Just curious is your car a
Cayman
or
Boxster
and what year? Getting ready to do the
AOS
on my
987.2
and looking for some insight or a DIY page
I have a
987.2 cayman
and just changed mine. This is a good DIY video I found, and I purchased the part from
FCP euro
because of their lifetime guarantee.
.
The process wasn't difficult. Hardest part was snaking the old AOS out.
Looks easier than I remember the
986
job where I was working from above and below the car. O ring seats no flimsy tube with easy to brake Playschool connectors, sweet. I'm doing this in the spring after the brake flush as a preventative because of age not symptoms.
Was it also a P2097 code?
Twas a VW just posted it to suggest the easiest cheapest r/o (rule out) items when doing it yourself is IMO an acceptable process as zero labor cost more than makes up for any misdiagnosis on small replacement cost wear items. If it's going to service just let them do their thing.
I understand it was a VW but was it the same CEL code of P2097?
It was long time ago, sorry I don't recall the specifics.
