Also, they checked some nice option boxes, so there's that.

PS2: these were the factory fitted tire, and are N rated.

Suggestion
They are being replaced for age not tread but that fact likely means they should just go to the recycle.

All that's left is to determine whether the set on it now could be sold for track use.

Suggestion
I know people who use the all-season version of the Michelins, but since I have separately mounted winters I stay with the performance summer treads for the other 3 seasons.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Outcome without a verified action link
It worked out better for me financially and the car was as new with a CPO for less than the pleasure of putting the first 2200 on it.
Some opinions I wanted to get from the board:
Your favorite tire for street applications. No track work, summer max performance (if it's
Michelin
what iteration and why)
Do new
TPMS
units need to be recalibrated and if so is it a stalk or durametric approach?
If I buy
Michelin
(highly likely) opinions on the raised white letters (assuming they can be ordered I've only seen them on a few cars) Since the car is stock it's one of the only mods I'd make for the next set of
tires
. I thought it might look good with black wheels and a white car. Would it? Or is that too "disco" since it already has the side stripe.
Thanks
I recently purchased some really nice forged wheels from an inmate here and intended to shod them with some nice new
Michelins
when they arrived.
But I couldn't help but notice that the
Bridgestone
rubber that he had mounted on them had hardly been used so I thought what-the-heck and mounted the wheels as is.
Now I face the dilemma of admitting that the car is "funner" with them and it might be because they don't have such serious grip?
I live rural and without close access to serious high-speed canyon carving, but I now can experience the car rotating a bit here and there at less than go-to-jail speed and it does so very predictably. An absolute hoot.
I'm not saying it's for everyone, but I just might take this approach when I need fresh rubber.
Don't know about Porsches
tpms
, but these wheels are equipped with them and my 987.1 doesn't have the feature.
on my 2011Cayman I just love my continental extreme DWS great on the road, sticky, quiet and good in the wet. I do not track my car.
The
TPMS
on my 987.2 is done by a procedure outlined in the manual
In 14 years of 987 ownership I've only used
Michelin
summer performance
tires
. (Winters have typically been
Pirelli
.)
The two models of 18"
Michelin tires
I've used are:
PS2: these were the factory fitted tire, and are N rated. They typically last about 35K kms with lots of spirited driving but only occasional track duty. They are pricier than the PS4s because of the N rating.
PS4s: these have become my preferred tire, even though not N rated. They come out on top in all the tests it seems. They last a bit longer than the PS2 but seem just as grippy. Some say these are the successor to the PS2 but since they don't come in an N rating, the PS2's are still available for those who want them.
I know people who use the all-season version of the Michelins, but since I have separately mounted winters I stay with the performance summer treads for the other 3 seasons.
Not sure about availability of white lettering, but the PS4s tire does come with a very nice black sidewall design moulded into the tire.
No devices are needed to program tire pressure sensors, you go into the menu and the car will self-learn new sensors over about a 5 mile distance.
Haven't replaced the
tires
on my BB yet, so can't really provide a recommendation. I will say I liked the overall performance (grip, longevity, and noise) of the
Bridgestone
Potenza's. Used them exclusively on my previous e90 M3, but that's of no help here I'm sure! White lettering...ehhhh...I'd have to say that's best left for 60's / 70's muscle cars. Not so sure it belongs on a Porsche. But, hey, if you like it, that's all that matters!
I'm with you on the lettering although the few I saw were more subtle than the imagery you are conjuring. All that's left is to determine whether the set on it now could be sold for track use. They are being replaced for age not tread but that fact likely means they should just go to the recycle.
If I were you, I would use up those old race
tires
on the street. To make this even better, add a Wavetrac
LSD
to allow both rear wheels to spin without nannies when using full power. I have done exactly this with an old set of
Bridgestone
RE71's on my light wt forged Titan 7 wheels. I do have an almost new set of
Michelin PS4s
in the same size as the RE71R's. Even-though the RE71s are old and only have 40% if their rubber left, they are equal to the grip on the straight and their side walls are much stiffer so turn in and back and forth slalom type curves, the RE71 wins. The downside is the noise and stiffer side walls spring rate making a rough ride on bumpy back country roads.
Michelin
's also win in standing water as the RE71R's tend to aquaplane easier.
R's and Spyders come with a mechanical
LSD
, but the clutches wear rapidly, so to get the same effect, the Wavetrac does transfer power to the unweighted wheel as well as stabalizing the rear end during threshold breaking and comes with a lifetime warranty.
I have three sets of wheels/
tires
and all have
TPMS
(12
battery
/senders), Takes the computer about 10 minutes of driving to reset to the new tire pressure senders.
I put on the Continentals, and they have suited my street driving very well...
I should add that I have the 20" wheels, so available choices for me may differ from some others.
For street/track PS2’s, however I’m sick of paying for
Michelin
commercials on a tire that just doesn’t last… on my Cayman 19’s I bought Yokohama Advan Apex 601’s… there as good as PS4’s but not better, but PS4’s are better in the wet… Apex’s cost 650.00 for 245/285’s… sold!!! They work really good…
On the 911 I just got my PS2’s after months of back order…
Here in Western Oregon I've been running
Michelin
PS A/S3+ (predecessor of the current PS A/S4) on my cars for the past few years. Had them on my prior 911 ('84
Carrera
coupe) and they were all I could want out of a tire for year-round use. While we don't get much snow around here (normally), for 5 or more months of the year the temp can be at or below 40°F and summer
tires
are scary and prone to premature rubber failure (tread cracks). With the all season
tires
, I don't need to consider dedicated winter
tires
that I really don't need.
Today's crop of high performance A/S
tires
is really good -
Michelin
,
Conti
, and
Goodyear
all have
tires
that rival the best summer
tires
from just a few years back. The only caveat is that they tend to get scrubbed off in a hurry with track use. But for street driving they are all I need.
I saw two 992 GT3’s in the show room and they both had
Pirelli
’s on them… so Porsche isn’t strict to just
Michelin
’s… although they might also be having stocking the
tires
they want? It took the rack 3 months to send mine.. I need to start driving the 911 come spring
Haha Porsche isn't strict to
Michelins
, it's Boris that usually is. My car came with
Bridgestone
from factory, others as you stated come with
Pirelli
or
Michelin
. I have P Zero at the moment and I have to tell you I have liked them for road work a lot. I just have not had
Michelins
in a while so when it's time if they are available it's likely going to be my choice but I am enjoying the perspectives of other so who knows I'm open. I just want all my service work and rubber before I go on some club invites and to VA to visit family. 2022 = brake flush, new oil cannister and cartridge and a new
AOS
(preventative)
I didn't fill out the spec sheet. The dealership owner put 2200 miles on it. It worked out better for me financially and the car was as new with a CPO for less than the pleasure of putting the first 2200 on it. Been around the car game, it was our family business, the decision I made was the right one for me, the car owner. Also, they checked some nice option boxes, so there's that.
BRIDGESTONEPOTENZA RE050A
Worked great for me rain and all.
Continental DWS not good for me above 105mph bounced all over the road.
Pilot sports no good in rain at all great on dry warm roads. CHEERS
