I got my car back on Monday with a new engine installed (leaks and damaged engine block) but had to take it back as it seems that the power steering liquid line is leaking and was causing a lot of white smoke as it dripped onto the exahust pipes.

Suggestion
I don't see this color combination very often so it is sometime a nice change from the usual black/silver/dark blue (no offense to these colors as they are stunning) and perhaps why the car gets noticed.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Currently I am driving an 01 AS c2 cab which has spent 30 days in service since June 7. I got my car back on Monday with a new engine installed (leaks and damaged engine block) but had to take it back as it seems that the power steering liquid line is leaking and was causing a lot of white smoke as it dripped onto the exahust pipes.
Anyway, the dealer has offered me a trade but only has a few 02 cabs in stock right now. One car which is similarly equipped as mine is White. This is not a color I ever thought about getting but it does not look too bad. I am partial to AS, SG, Black, Basalt Black. White is definitely not your usual Porsche color, however trading my current car in would hopefully allow me to actually drive the car to places other than the dealer, I hope! The delear did say that it may be difficult to resell a White c2cab if I were to do that one day.
So, does anyone here have any opinions on whether I am making a huge mistake by getting a White c2 cab? Or, should I just keep my current vehicle and hope that it is not a lemon and my problems are isolated? I have thought about trading my P-car in for an SL500 but would rather have a P-car if I can get a reliable one.
I am very interested in your thoughts on the color as well as what is a reasonable price break on the end of year model. I have read some posts here reagrding the discounts but this dealer in Vancouver, BC seems very rigid on that. I have a home in Phoenix where I could take this White car. Possibly the white color would be easier to re-sell in the AZ market?

Is it white/black/black? That's kind of a dull looking car. But there are a lot of cars in Phoenix.
The other thing is that your 01 will be worth less as a future trade-in with all the mechanical problems you have.
I'd say if you're getting a good financial deal then take it. The 02 (I have a silver 02 Cab) offers more amenities than the 01...more hp, too..glovebox AND cupholders.
Of course the other approach is to play chicken with the dealer. As the 03's come in he may want to move his inventory.
I had a 90 White C2 Cab and just kept it wiped clean.
Good luck
white is a great color in porsches--THE traditional porsche racing color! it's also easy to maintain and doesn't show dirt like dark colors
you also won't see yourself coming and going every day! if you're getting a good deal, get it!
i've never had trouble selling any german car in white including mb, bmw or porsche's. only trouble is your car will look new for so long in white you won't want to trade it in! dump your lemon!
Hi Don,
The car is white/blue/blue. Do you think that is too dull? I would agree that white/black/balck is rather dull. I am in Vancouver BC but because I have a home in Phoenix, I thought that a white car might have more appeal in that searing heat.
Sincerely, Wilson
Hi Ignacio,
Thanks for your positive response. I shall keep your advice in mind when I make the final decision.
Sincerely, Wilson
white is one of the colours on any cars i just wont buy i just think it spoils any car - others might and am sure will disagree - the dealer is right i think if there are few out there like me then it will be difficult to resell - most people are ok with any black or blue cars not ideal choice somtimes but would not stop u buying it but some feel passionatly as i do abt white - let us know what u do
You mentioned that there were other 02's in stock so why don't you see what kind of deal you get on a color that you like ? White is a difficult color to sell later on and you're better off not getting it if you don't like it.
Wilam - a wise man once told me "Never get into bed with anything you cant stand to wake up with".
Anway FWIW lapis blue is
the
colour!
White is not a color I give a lot of thought to but a guy on another board (funcars) has a white cab that is beautiful! In addition, I saw a white 02 coupe driving down the road the other day and it was quite stunning.
That being said, if you don't love it, don't get it, make the Dealer and/or PCNA get you what you want...

colors are very prone to become faddish. the current "in" color is silver which to me looks mainly grey--like an old flannel suit.
white is a classic car color that looks particularly good with a blue ragtop and blue seats. i owned a 1999 328i bmw convertible with this same color combination. it was stunning. it was very easy to sell 1 1/2 yrs later with only minimal depreciation. i constantly received compliments on this car in part i suspect because one doesn't see it coming and going every day. if it had cornered half as well as a 911 i'd still have it.
if you are so worried about resale, go to edmonds and punch in white/blue vs the currently exalted arctic silver/black. i think you'll find the difference in price is minimal.
in the end colors reflect personal taste (within reason) with a few practical considerations such as ease of maintenance thrown in.
ah, that all decisions could be like this!
Thanks for all your thoughts on my so called "dilemma"! There were certainly good arguments made for going with the White but in the end it is not the color I wanted eventhough I think it looks nice.
I hemmed and hawed and almost got an 02 Arctic Silver c2 Cab as a replacement for my 01 but it did not have the sport seats that I so enjoy in my 01. I got down to signing the contract but decided at the last minute to order a 2003 Seal Grey/Grey Leather c4s for delivery in about 9 months! I had been admiring this vehicle for some time but it was not a choice I was given by the dealer, with any price break. In the end Paul in London is right about getting exactly what I want.
Any comments on the Seal Grey/Grey Leather?
Thanks again to everyone for your help. It is very much appreciated.

I currently has a 993 white cab w/ blue top and blue interior which I have had for 4 years. Before I bought it I would have never thought to buy a white car and especially not a Porsche (was thinking silver, dark blue or speed yellow), and never thought that blue was an appropriate interior color. I was ho-hum until I saw it - once I saw the car in person I changed my mind. I continue to get compliments and stares (hopefully not b/c it is ugly!)...and I know it must be the car as I'm not very good looking The car is also lowered with aftermarket rims and RS splitters so that may have helped
I don't see this color combination very often so it is sometime a nice change from the usual black/silver/dark blue (no offense to these colors as they are stunning) and perhaps why the car gets noticed. That said, I have seen this color combination on a 996 cab and have to say that the color is more flattering on a 993 than a 996 IMO...and more so on a cab than a coupe as the blue is a nice contrast (I've seen a white with black/black and it looked a bit dull)

I have a Seal/Gray Cab. The only suggestion I have would be to consider getting another carpet color. I have black carpets which I like as I don't like the maintainance of lighter carpets...
As I recall, it's only a $300 option...

Wilson: glad to hear that you're getting final resolution to your issue. Hope you got a decent trade-in value for the new C4S. I couldn't get it, otherwise I'd have gotten the C4S instead of the Targa.
My wife "loved" the white Cab. She felt it looks great. White tends to look good on convertibles - the MB SL or BMWs. But, C4S is better - in any colour!
