jeeez, well i just had both rear wheels balanced at jct in leeds and both rear tyres are 36.5 psi - would they have checked the tyre pressures when balancing the wheels?

Suggestion

I've got to say that quite a lot of 'experts' set the pressures 36/36 on 18" wheels on the 911, I assume because these are the factory settings for 17" wheels....

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just doing my regular tyre pressure checks (!) er not, anyway, my manual says 44psi for the rear and 36psi for the front for cold tyres. Have I read that right! What do you guys recommend?

POST 2Original post

That is correct for the 18" wheels. Most 993 owners run 2psi or so down.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

jeeez, well i just had both rear wheels balanced at jct in leeds and both rear tyres are 36.5 psi - would they have checked the tyre pressures when balancing the wheels?

POST 4Original post

I've got to say that quite a lot of 'experts' set the pressures 36/36 on 18" wheels on the 911, I assume because these are the factory settings for 17" wheels.... and the experts don't bother to read the manual or the BIG sticker on the LHS door. :dont know:

POST 5Original post

Yes - you have read right. In the Targa I had the fronts at 32 and the rears at 40. We had a thread about 996 tyre pressures a few months back and AFAIK many of us in the forum ran them at under OEM settings. I myself used to have them as per OEM but this made for a rock hard ride (and a very rattly roof). ~ Maxie

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

interesting ..... i've opted for cold pressures of 40 rear and 36 front and i'll see how i get on with that for a week or two. Thanks for the advice guys.

POST 7Original post

When I first got my 996, I ran the pressures 2psi under for a softer ride but found they wore unevenly. Since then have stuck to recommended pressures [36/44] and get a lot more milage from them. I have a TPMS fitted and the pressures will vary greatly depending on the temp and driving style. TB
