You can get extended warranty for a privately sourced car, you need to have the car inspected by an OPC for a set charge - there is some information on the Porsche website.

When I returned 2 weeks later to pick the car up I found out that the car had extended warranty from the previous owner which was then topped up by the 2 years used car warranty so it was near enough 3 yrs worth of warranty along with brand new tyres, fresh MOT, next service due in 20 months, Porsche Silverstone experience day, full tank of fuel, a 1:43 scale Porsche model car and a few other little goodies.

So after browsing for about 2-3 weeks one evening I was browsing Porsche Used Cars and that day a guard red example was added and it was almost perfect spec, the only 3 'nice to have options' it was missing was PTV, Folding mirrors and Dual Climate - it had everything else.

I still browse for used GTS's now just to see what car have come up for sale and which ones have lingered around and not sold.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

The price of the car was very much at the limit of my budget, in fact it was above my budget however after some man maths I placed a deposit online and reserved the car, I think drove an 8 hr round trip to view the car at an OPC and the car was exactly what I wanted, it could have been cheaper ideally and had those other 'nice to have options' but when the market was booming and cars were being snapped up I didn't let this one go, test drove it and deal was done.

Hi All, I am looking for a very low mileage one owner mint 981 Boxster GTS.
Do I go for Manual or PDK....?
Do I buy from OPC, General Trader or Private....?
Anything to look out for.........?
I have been to see a few cars but all have been at Independent Traders and have had 4,5,6 previous owners, none of the cars I would consider have been mint even though advertised as so. Any help advice greatly appreciated.

Mainly "overpaying". There are some truly absurd prices being asked for those cars.
Essentially you're looking for a needle in a haystack, and if you decide you want a manual that'll be an even smaller needle in an even bigger haystack.
Problem you have is that a new GTS now has a 2024 lead time and the price has recently risen to £68570 and despite winter and Xmas rapidly approaching prices are rising quickly.
Unfortunately prices will continue rising for the forseeable especially as we get into peak buying season early 2022.

Don’t pay attention to owners on these cars. Porsche ownership is quite different to the majority of other marques

Why very low mileage? You'll pay a lot more, and won't be able to drive it much without hitting the value. Buy on condition.
Do I go for Manual or PDK....?
Only you can answer this after test driving both.
Do I buy from OPC, General Trader or Private....?
Whatever you're comfortable with/can afford. You don't mention indy's.

Adaptive mounts have seen failures on sports chrono cars.

Get a Spyder? More available and many with 10k mies or less. I bought one last April and love it. If you do get a GTS definitely get a manual.
Agreed……if budget allows get a Spyder, you won’t regret it.
This looks a good spec/decent price.

whats not to like?
Essentially you're looking for a car that's barely turned a wheel and sat in a garage for the last 6-7 years? It might be worth focusing more on current condition and service history. If not, I think you might be in for a long search.
I recently bought a 981 Cayman GTS - there really weren't that many around and I don't recall any of them having less than 10k miles and 1 owner.

I'd vote manual but I'm a biased.
I did see the PTS Peridot Green Boxter GTS with Derek Bell signature on the Frunk. That looked immense but a) cannot remember if it's a man or pdk and b) most likely has been sold. I wanted to buy it but given its concourse-like condition, parking it outside 24/7 I'd of felt guilty!
Definitely buy on condition and history, not on miles.

Yes I've seen that one, been on AT for a long time, not sure but the PSE Button on centre consul is missing which I think was standard on GTS, also drivers seat bolsters look quite distorted for such low mileage. Also not fussy on suede wheel..

Interesting you suggested a Spyder, I have been looking at them and as you say there are far more available and generally with low miles. Although, there seems to be a £15-20K uplift in price. I think they look fantastic with the roof down and they sit more aggressively on the road, although the roof is much more fiddly and has a plastic rear window. I'm also fearful that a Spyder would probably have had a harder life than most GTS's.

I would definitely have gone to see that one had it been in a more main stream colour.

4 years ago I was in your place contemplating a 981 of some description. I wasn’t in any rush to the extent I didn’t even visit my local OPC, I would just keep an eye out when on the road or if I walked past one that was parked up I would have a good look at it. I thought all models looked great but as is the norm with cars the more you look the more you start appreciating/liking the higher spec more expensive models. Annoying isn’t it! Tbh I was drawn to a GTS with its slightly more aggressive stance over the ‘S’ and the fact it stood out a bit.
In those couple of years I never once saw a Spyder on the road. I then started reading a 981 Spyder forum on here and was struck by the passion the owners had for their cars. So I see one for sale in the only colour, agate, that I wanted so I picked up the phone ‘sorry taken a deposit’……I then find out that there are only 12 in ‘my’ colour in the UK and only 227 sold of which 27 allegedly went overseas. Kinda explained why I hadn’t driven past one in those couple of years!
So with one having just changed hands I was looking for 1 of 11 cars in the UK. One comes up for sale and along with the Mrs we go to see it. It was literally the first Spyder we had ever seen in the flesh! Both loved it and took the plunge…….2 years later still love it as much and still not driven past one of the other 199 or 226 whichever is to be believed. So in 4 years I’ve never seen another one on the roads. People have actually asked me what it is as they too have never seen one.
Hope the above has not sent too many of you to sleep but go with your heart and enjoy whichever car you choose, they are all fantastic and we are privileged to be able to drive them.
Happy Driving x
Hatfield have my old GTS up for sale at the moment.
Its Manual and has x73 suspension.
I owned it from new until May this year when i sold it privately . The buyer took it in for service in November and took an offer on it .
When i sold it it was perfect, had full history and wanted for nothing.

Also this. Car condition is way more important than the number of owners. Some people often buy these cars to scratch an itch and get rid just as quick having hardly driven them.
I bought a CGTS early in the year from an OPC.
"High" owners but only 20k miles, mint condition, perfect history and A grade inspection report. A car with one owner could still have thrashed the life out of it. Don't judge a Porsche by the number of owners 😉
Personally, I'd buy from an OPC. Their prep work is, in my experience, outstanding (if pushed) and you have 2yrs warranty for piece of mind.
Good luck with the search!

Re harder life. I think the inverse with Spyders. Most have been cosseted garage queens.

There is no such thing as overpaying for something, the worth of anything is determined by what somebody is willing to pay for it.
Is a 250GTO worth millions, it is if you want to own one.
My old one is up for sale at Paragon.

Colour scheme might not be to all tastes but I loved it. Not high mileage but not a garage queen either which is the best way imo. It's a really good spec and will have only two owners (Porsche GB HR director for first year then me for the rest). What they're asking for it is only £3K less than I paid for it from a Porsche dealer five years ago! Looks like I should have negotiated harder when I P/X'd it a few months ago ...

Been up for sale now for some time now I think it has been reduced good it has the extended warranty ..thought about as I used to have a 981 Spyder a few years back and thought I would look to get another one at a decent price ..but that combo colour wise is not to my taste.

I chose the X73 because i was coming from a 997.2 GT3 and i thought the standard PASM would be too soft . The X73 does run a bit firmer so it can be fidgety on broken tarmac at low speeds but above 40mph that irons out and its fine. The larger anti roll bars means it corners much flatter and it looks sooooo much better with the lower ride height .No issues catching the spoiler on crossovers ( unlike the GT3). Its basically the 981 spyder set up.

Could have been better prepared but if it is an honest genuine car that is exactly what I want I would still buy it.

They tried, they failed, they adjusted.
It is winter with a new year looming, if it were March with the sun shining who knows what someone would pay for it if it is exactly what they want.
The advert says 5+ owners, I missed the +, it is actually a 6 owner car, another negative for my give it a miss list.
I recently (10 weeks ago) bought a Boxster 981 GTS so happy to share with you what I experienced.
So as a bit of background info I have had 3 S2000's in the past and decided that now was the time to get myself a Porsche, I knew the prices were at a high so I put my S2000 up for sale and sold it within hours of listing it at a price that I didn't think that I would get any interest but I did so I sold it at a very good price which is all good and well but then I knew that I'd have to pay over the odds to get a decent GTS.
I did a lot of research into them and weighed put he option of having an 'S' instead to save some money and spend it on other car like a C63 NA but decided to keep my current daily hack (E90 330i) and plough more money into the S2000 replacement. When I started to look for a GTS there was only about 10 examples for sale and pretty much all of them were white, it was a colour that I was keen on however the more I looked into it the more I wanted either guards red or blue.
Having made the decision on the colours this made it much easier to look for a car, although having said that it became clear that these colours didn't come up for sale that often. I then had a list of options which were deal breakers and nice to have:
Deal Breaker Options:
1. Heated seats - I was surprised about how many cars didn't have this option
2. Alcantara interior - I didn't want full leather (Alcantara delete option)
3. PDK
Nice to have options:
1. PTV - rarely see this option fitted
2. GTS interior pack - red contrast stitching etc
3. Cruise control
4. Folding Mirrors
5. Exterior colour roll over hoops
6. Satin black wheels
7. Dual Climate
8. Carbon Interior Package
So after browsing for about 2-3 weeks one evening I was browsing Porsche Used Cars and that day a guard red example was added and it was almost perfect spec, the only 3 'nice to have options' it was missing was PTV, Folding mirrors and Dual Climate - it had everything else. The other good bit about the car was that it only had 12k miles on the clock, the concerning bit was it had 5 owners however having spoken to a couple of dealers previously they all told me that its very common for Porsche's to have many owners as owners tend to own them for a year, enjoy them and then try something else.
The whole Porsche dealership experience was excellent from the start to finish, the car was fully detailed by an external company and was ceramic coated when I picked it up. There was very little movement on the asking price but I was happy because it was the colour I wanted and it had most of the options that I wanted.
Personally I was happy to buy from a private seller but it just so happened that the car that suited my requirements was from an OPC and I am happy that I did buy from an OPC even though I think the car would have been £2k less privately.
I hope that helps.
Thanks for your advice Robin_GTS, it sounds like I am looking for pretty much the same car as you were, and I may have overlooked this one purely due to the high number of previous owners. It's great to hear of your Brilliant Experience in buying from an OPC, a friend of mine has just bought a 15K miles one owner 981 Spyder from an OPC and his experience is very similar to yours. I also agree there seems to be a great deal of peace of mind when buying from an OPC, along with some extra benefits. I'll just have to keep trawling the adds on AT, PH & OPA.
No problem, I trawled through all the usual websites on a daily basis looking for the ideal car and it became an obsession after a while so I had alerts on etc but this didn't stop me browsing, the good thing about browsing like a mad man was that you get to learn about the market and the prices, plus the optional extras etc that some cars have and some don't.
One thing I can advise you on is that all OPC have a stock of cars which are in storage and are awaiting assessment and prep for the advert, when I was at the OPC collecting my car a friend of mine who took me down to pick the car up was interested in a standard S and the salesman brought up a list of 20 or so cars which were in prep but not advertised, it may be worth giving your local OPC a call and see if they have anything in stock awaiting assessment and prep. If you are interested I am more than happy to give you the details of the salesman I dealt with and you can make contact with him and he might be able to check for you.
Buying from an OPC is certainly a peace of mind and worth the extra money for me personally, if the same car was for sale privately then I would have bought it anyway as it was hard to find the spec I wanted anyway and took the risk of buying privately. I still browse for used GTS's now just to see what car have come up for sale and which ones have lingered around and not sold.
I would to let the number of previous owners put you off, not only do Porsche's generally have more owners than you'd expect but 2 seater sport cars generally have a high number of owners because people tend to grow out of them, people start families and makes the 2 seater hard to justify. All my previous S2000's have had lots of previous owners therefore for me you have to buy on condition and service history.

I agree with the OPC peace of mind angle but I would extend that thinking to buying privately from someone who has paid to keep their car in the OPC/Extended Warranty loop.
I would rather buy a car privately with extended OPC warranty than from some random car dealer without it.

I agree, at the moment most of the higher priced GTS's available are at Independent Dealers who are not offering extended OPC warranty.

I think the OP is looking for a Boxster GTS rather than a Cayman. This Cayman in-particular although sub £50k personally isn't very desirable, its got no interior GTS pack and has Alcantara delete option so the interior looks very basic and there is very little to differentiate it from a standard Cayman S interior

Thanks for the info, I’m looking at a 981 GTS purchase in the spring, I definitely want one with Porsche extended warranty.
Was the experience day at Silverstone a standard part of the deal or something you had to haggle for, I had always thought it came with new cars, I had one gifted around 8 years ago, great day which sealed in my mind the need to have one of my own, 8 years later the time has arrived.
I have seen some creeping towards £60k at OPC which then gets me thinking it’s only another £8k for a 718 GTS but base spec, can I wait another X amount of months, with a thought of buying a Cayman R while delivery hopefully breaking even, good old man logic.
Happy to buy privately if it has or is eligible for the warrant.
My most haves are manual and Bose, colour wise I’m open as the same colour can be a yes or no depending on hood colour, wheels and seats.
You mentioned a chap you dealt with could you message me his details. Cheers

Only issue with Porsche Warranty is that you are almost having to have the vehicle serviced at an OPC otherwise any warranty claims could become a painful argument depending on what claim is for. Servicing is something that needs to be considered when buying a used car as well, with servicing being every 2 years or 20k miles with a rotation of minor (~£700) and major (~£1200) ideally you want to have a good gap to the next service, I bought mine in October and the next service being a major one due in Jan 2023.
I managed to get the experience day as a part of the deal. I didn't get much off the asking price of the vehicle but was able to get a few goodies to soften the blow to the wallet.
You can get extended warranty for a privately sourced car, you need to have the car inspected by an OPC for a set charge - there is some information on the Porsche website.
£60k for a 981 GTS is way over priced in my opinion - I have tracked the ones for sale quite closely and a lot of the white examples have been around for months, I have seen a handful of OPC ones listed about £56-58k have been sold which were red and blue.
PDK versions are a lot more common than manual, I haven't seen a manual with a similar spec to mine so I am glad I went for the PDK otherwise I'd be still on the hunt. Apparently there are 287 PDK's and 80 or so manuals in the UK.
Speaking to the salesman he was saying that the 718 4 cylinder GTS was a tough car to sell and thinks that the prices of them will soon be the same as the 981 GTS prices as the 4 pot hasn't been received that well and the 4.0 6 pot is the final nail in the coffin. He did say that the 4 pot doesn't deserve the bad rap about it as its actually a better engine than the 6 cylinder drivability wise but the noise and character is lacking.

Interesting to see how the GTS seems to hit the nail on the head for so many people here. Obviously given the title of the thread that shouldn’t come as any great surprise but I appear to have ended up owning an ‘S’ coming from a slightly different angle.
I wanted a convertible, the Boxster has to be one of the best, so that was an easy tick. I have no interest in doing track days in a road car, so that eliminated the Spyder/GT4 options.
I like the 3.4 engine so that left me with either an S or GTS Boxster and both were in budget, happy days. I drew up a list of must and must not haves and that is when it started getting slightly more complicated.
There have always been cars out there to buy but I found getting the spec/history I wanted the hardest part, it is easy to see why people buy new and get exactly what they want, clearly not an option in this case.
Whatever you end up with you will be delighted with, the Boxster is a great car to own, whatever flavour you decide on.
I’m sure the right one will come up, I may end up with an S but it will have all the nice bits of the GTS just minus a few BHP, which on the road I doubt I will notice, it won’t get tracked, weekend toy and a few road trips. Just another stratosphere on the Z3 2.2 that does that role now.

You say that but when you are in Germany driving flat out and a GTS comes flying past at 1mph faster you will almost certainly regret not spending the extra
