Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

hello everybody, just joined the site and was wondering if anybody had some solid information on 996 turbo ownership and what if any common faults I should be on the look out for. From trawling about online I've come to understand the engine is pretty bullet proof if serviced correctly (no RMS issues!!) but are the bolt on bits and bobs up to scratch also??? Obviously FSH is a must but if there is anything else I need to know before parting with some very hard earned cash please let me know. Many thanks Matt

POST 2Original post

Welcome to the forum, first and foremost whatever car you decide to buy make sure you get an independent inspection. As you say the engines are pretty much bomb proof, and don't be put off by a rattly engine on idle as the majority tend to do this. As far as ancillary items to look out for (the inspection will bring these out anyway) but here goes... - All 3 radiators - Air con condensers - turbo actuators - suspension top mounts - clutch - discs/pads - turbo heat shields - tyres - coolant reservoir cap - 2nd gear drop out - coil packs - MAF I'm sure a few other folks will chip in with more but just remember this is a £100k car when new and despite 2nd hand values being round the £30k mark, if a car has not been looked after the list above can run to over £5k.. Now for the positive, they are a fantastic car, probably the supercar bargain of the century and one that you can drive every day!

Loads of Buyers Guides in this link including the 996 Turbo: http://www.gtpurelyporsche.com/buyingguide.asp Be prepared to spend at least 30k minimum for a half decent model that has been looked after. Spending that extra few ££££ makes all the difference.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
